Or a "nice" Mitsubishi Outlander:

Crude conversions as you can see. There are so many more. The funniest ones I've seen are SUV's described as "Crew Cab". So 5 seats, rear glass etc... exactly the same as the non-commercial variant.
That does look awful. I would have thought the Outlander PHEV would have been pretty low on tax, making such a conversion unnecessary.
The converted ones were mostly 2.3 Diesels, but as the Outlander is now PHEV only in Ireland, they've started converting those too. Commercial vehicles suit companies who can write them off for tax purposes, not so with cars.

Interesting!

I assume there was a big tax advantage to the 2.0?

I remember reading about 2.0 Jaguar XJs in foreign markets while the smallest we got was 3.0 diesel or 3.0 petrol
2.0 Cut-off point marked a massive increase in purchase tax in Italy - that's why Ferrari made a 2.0 V8 turbo engine for their domestic market only.
Same with the E30 BMW 320is was made for certain markets as the S14 M3 engine displacement was over the threshold so they made it smaller.
Not only Italy, but Portugal too.
Yep, nearly bought an Portuguese one but it fell through, still annoyed about that to this day.

Wasn't the 320iS only about 3hp down on the M3? And lighter, too?

Mitsubishi in the UK sell them as well. They're very popular with farm and equine vets as they look like a car and have 4x4 ability. I can only talk about the diesel ones, rather than the PHEV, but I'm certainly a fan.

I think he had a few one-offs knocked up for him. A silver Alfa Romeo RZ; a silver Ferrari Testarossa convertible (or possibly not convertible, simply open like the Out Run car made real) and possibly an open top Lancia Delta in guess which colour....

Yeah, I’ve looked at one for sale.

The Land Cruiser commercial is one of my favourite cars for sale right now

I never knew that Alpina made a B3 GT3 in the E92 coupe. It's strange for a few reasons, chief amongst them that the GT3 car was actually a B6 so based on the 6 series, not the 3, and that you could spec one as an auto which doesn't seem in keeping with the motorsport kudos. It has some very decent brakes and suspension too, not just aesthetic mods. Auto-Motor und Sport reckon it's a natural successor to the E46 M3 CSL however.

Came up whilst I was searching for 911 GT3's here in Germany, for the same money as a 997.1 GT3 I know which I'd have. In black it does look a lot like a barry'd 320d repmobile to be honest.

Also found the "Deklart" Bentley GT3, but this appears to be a one off (thank christ)

Hi there,

Weirdly was uploaded some pics to my website last night and amongst them was images of the B3 GT3 that was on show at the 2015 Classic Car show at the NEC.

There were (maybe) three RZ in silver, as well as one in white, all made at the very end of the production run when the factory was re-opened by the administrators.

Do you have a source for the Agnelli RZ story? Curious because I’ve only heard it once before, and in that case it turned out to be confusion / mistaken identity.

Don't think so, seems be bought that car from the US in a bit of a state and I doubt the Agnelli car would ever have gotten into that kind of nick.

The engine cover looks different too.

Interesting that it's a 335i. I really think that would benefit from M3 styling (wider arches etc).

Whilst a bit of a BMW nerd, I've never really been in to Alpinas, do they always use non-M cars?

These days, Alpina are more about fast luxury than faster-than-standard-just-for-the-sake-of-it. Their B10 uses a 550(?), not an M5, as the suspension (among other things) is less 'full-on', and the Alpina Z8 was actually down on power compared to the BMW Z8 (and came with an auto not the standard manual).

Historically, they were over and above BMW for power, but since the M division became mainstream, Alpina have gone for the velvet glove approach.

Their B10 B5 BiTurbo uses a 550(?) 540i
Other than the E30 B6 3.5S (based on E30 M3) and debatably the E31 B12 5.7 Coupe (based on E31 850CSi), Alpina has always used non-M cars

Comprehensive information here.
