Whilst a bit of a BMW nerd, I've never really been in to Alpinas, do they always use non-M cars?
Their B10 B5 BiTurbo uses a 550(?) 540i
In my defence, the B5 used to be a B10, back when the 3 series was a B6 (and a C1), the 6 series was a B7 and the 7 series was a B11. wink

They've gone all soft and mainstream since switching to easily understandable nomenclature like B3/D3 for 3-series, B5/D5 for 5-series and B7 for 7-series. madhehe

You may think it's easily understable, but I'm old.

I read something once which said a director at M GmbH (they and BMW AG are indeed separate companies) said he would never allow an outside agency to build using an M car as it's base, I think the only exception has been the Alpina B6 3.5S which was based on the E30 M3.

Alpina also seem to have some aversion to ceramic brakes, I see quite a few Alpina BMWs in a dealer here in Munich, fitted with some of the largest iron brakes I've ever seen. E.g. the new B7 based on the X7, pretty sure a X7 M50i or whatever it's called would have at least a ceramic option

Isn't that because of Alpina's approach to building 'softer' cars than M division? I've been told that CCBs need standing on from speed regularly or they squeak like mad.

I idly specced a B3 Touring earlier and ceramics are an option but they warn you as you spec them that they can create noise

Hi there,

Agnelli Testarossa Spyder is currently in storage at DK Engineering.
If you have a watch of this video shot in the last couple of weeks the car is shown in detail from about 1hr 21 mins in.

This was my understanding of their pitch as well - from watching the BMW Z8 review which had the Alpina treatment which apparently made it much better when compared to the regular version (says Clarkson) even though it was a bit softer and had an auto instead of the manual

Now, I knew the original Tommykaira ZZ existed from Gran Turismo. The company stopped existing in 2000.

However, back in 2014 they were alive again with help from Green Lord Motors (who??) with the new ZZ-EV. An new electric version & the only EV at the moment I would consider owning. 305bhp, 75 mile range & 0-60mph in under 4 sec. Needs a longer range but that would mean more batteries, and more weight.

The original ZZ came out before the Lotus Elise. It just sold in tiny numbers

One I've never even heard of before, the Ford Festiva Shogun. Take an incredibly st car, make it look made and put the 6cylinder lump from a Taurus in the back of it. 7 made apparently.

Amazing, isn't it? A bit like the Aston Cygnet/Vantage - "who says you can't...?"

I could have sworn it was this thread that i replied to a day or two ago about the Connaught. I was on the list for one until it became clear it was never going to arrive

Other way round, the Kia Pride is a rebadged Ford Festiva/Mazda 121.
