Cars you didn't know existed...
Discussion
I've been watching old episodes of the Italian detective series 'Inspector Montalbano' upon the iPlayer.
Lots of agreeable '90s and '00s FIAT Police cars of course, and in one episode they have to go offroading, so comedy sidekick Catarella picks up the Inspector in the world's boxiest 'jeep' which turns out to be (after some looking at Wikipedia) a FIAT Nuova Campagnola: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Campagnola

I seem to remember that in the mid seventies there were a number of Ford Mustang II hybrids being tested with the 2.3 Pinto engine and loads of lead acid batteries. I can't find any reference on Google because it's one of those things where a search engine is being stupid and will only give me the new Mustang E details and not what I'm searching for despite me inputting specific keywords.

Top Find 12 x 6V batteries as they had a better current rating all carried on that third unpowered axle.

I’ve got one! Rather than just commenting on some of the superb finds on this thread....
I give you the Lexus ES300h.
No... hang on... Come back!
Looks like it’s the Lexus Camry. I’m sure it will be totally un-ph-worthy. It even manages to avoid the low company car BIK rates of the competition

What blew me away was the Li-ion pack the gentleman showed off around 9:30 in the video. 2 of those Li-ion packs (total size about 1/2 of one of the batteries in the car) would provide more power and range than the 12x lead-acid batteries filling the whole boot of that car. 21st Century Man said:

That sonds vaguely familiar. In a similar vein, I remember reading about a prototype battery or hybrid car that one of the big manufacturers made, it was allocated to selected members of the public but after the trial period they were all recalled and scrapped.Edited by 21st Century Man on Monday 16th March 14:13

One-wheel-drive, no brakes except the driver's feet, and I think the "clutch pedal" worked by lifting the driven wheel off the ground. Possibly the cheapest new car ever sold ($125 new).
