Expensive to build, low volumes to spread the development budget over. May as well wonder why a bespoke suit costs more than an off-the-peg one. People will spend this sort of money on mass produced cars like 911s and M-cars - that looks like worse value for money to me!
So no different to an Atom!

Why does everyone on here always try and resort to clever retorts in the vain attempt to justify their previous comments or ignore a question they dont really want to answer!

Will this be 30k better, faster, more fun, a better driving experience or however you want to word it, than its competitors, in your "opinion" and "why so" and before you say it, yes it does have competitors, Ariels, Caterhams, Xbow etc

You don't want one any more than you want an Atom. So to you it isn't worth more than an Atom. Other people (including the people who have ordered them or the chap above who actually has an Atom) don't agree. It costs what it costs, take it or leave it. We're talking about very expensive toys here, there is no rational reason for spending 40k on an Atom or 80k on a Mono or even 15k on a Caterham classic. If you want rational, spend 6k on a two year old Kia Ceed, five years of warranty left, replace it with another one every five years, job jobbed. Anything beyond that is an emotional purchase.

I can't tell you why you should want it. You do or you don't.

What is the actual plan for the business?

Am I right that they only intend to build 35 of these beautifully put together machines?

If so then it is obviously the launch pad for something more lucrative?

Fortunate enough to drive a Mono today and I can confirm that it is the singularly most exciting thing I've driven. Is it worth the price tag?? For me.....yes.....it's a subjective thing but I have no desire to own a road going Radical, Atom or Xbow. Don't forget the real cost is what it costs you in running costs and depreciation as long as you can afford the initial outlay?
We just need someone to come up with a definitive equation that works out those costs vs ownership pleasure then we wouldn't need to argue about price tags! smile

Spent a log time drooling over the Mono at last years TG Live. As far as I am concerned it is in a totally different league to Radicals/X-Bows/Caterhams/Atoms as a piece of design and engineering and for me was the star of the show.

I do think that a lot of people on this thread questioning it's price and comparing it to the above cars really need to spend some time with one in the flesh. Utterly glorious IMHO.

Another thread with British people bashing british innovation.

Typical.....it's too dear,it's badly built, its overbuilt, its not as good as x, it's better than x but not worth twice as much, it's a crap colour, its got no room for shopping, it's got too much space in it blah fking blah.

It doesn't matter what they think they're competing with - reality is they ARE competing with Atoms, Caterhams, Radicals, XBows and the like.

...

Could I have one on raw carbon without the interior trimmings etc. for £50K - and if so, wouldn't I? smile
Like I suggested, they're probably so incredibly busy trying to meet demand at 80k they don't give a rat's who you think they're competing with. ...and why would they make life more difficult for themselves by trying to offer you an ALDI version?

We have, as far as I am aware the first customer delivered car coming to oulton park on Tuesday. I am just slightly looking forward to seeing it!!!
I saw one at cholmondley this year and it was way better than I thought it would be. Very nicely finished and judging by the speed up the hill, pdq!
The price is high but even in these times, the people that can afford an £80k toy still have plenty of money. The exclusivity will appeal to these people also. I personally thought the atom was expensive when they came out but there is no arguing against their desirability and how they hold their value. I hope the mono is taken the same way.

I never got on with the Atom - the weight is too high up and too far back which significantly compromises its handling. Is there anything of similar weight to the MONO with a longitudinally mid-mounted engine that's much cheaper than this?

ETA: Radicals, I guess, but they're not really road focussed.

The only report I remember is from 5th gear. http://www.streetfire.net/video/fifth-gear-tramont...

Speaking as a Caterham owner, this thing is truly wonderful on every level and should be celebrated especially as it's British. I'd sell the Seven in a heartbeat for one of these!

Nice video Chris too smile

It may be annoying if / when Radicals zoom past (costing half the price). Lovely thing all the same.

I don't think that BAC Mono is expensive for what it is at all. Especially in today's market where cars cost crazy amount of money. It does seem to be an amazing car. It's just a shame that they don't have the option of a conventional manual gearbox. It would have been absolutely amazing if it had that option, and perhaps it would have made the price a little lower as well. It's obviously more focused towards the driver's experience than being the fastest car on the planet, so I think a manual gearbox would have been very good.
Anyway, there are so many amazing cars nowadays that don't have a manual gearbox so this is not really surprising.

Really? I've never seen a problem with moving over for faster vehicles on a track day?
