2 grand for an exhaust, panel filter and remap ?

Sounds like about a grands worth to me, 20 bhp isnt going to be that big of an increase, a turbo conversion wouldnt be that much more.
Don't forget the manifold and sportscat. A decent exhaust can easily set you back a grand these days so it seems like great value for money for the entire package.
This, plus no doubt BBR are recovering their development costs. Personally, the idea of picking up a £6k MX-5, then having the option to easily and reliably obtain a bit more go strongly appeals.

I hope PH can have a drive of a Super 180 and a stock one and report back on the differences.

You know for £2k and a willingness to spanner yourself for that same price you could build a very similar engine to the GT Concept. The easiest way to flow power from a Duratec is to help it breathe a bit better.

Couple of links for you all

J4CKO, Exactly,if your spending anywhere near £6 k ,there are better cars, To me the MX5 is a girls car.
and before anyone says have you driven one,no i have not,but i have owned convertible Porche, Bmw, Audi ,Mecedes,,i mean you can buy a E46 soft top on a 2002 for £3k,or SLK,or a Audi TT with 225bhp for £3k,
thats way better than a MX5

You reckon an MX5 is a girls car yet you're suggesting SLK's and TT's as alternatives? laugh

yep, £6000 for the car and £2000 for the upgrade, no thanks you can buy a really nice car for that much.
What other 2.0 convertible can you buy, same year, same power output, same rewarding chassis?
Yes - elaborate. What else would you get for 8K... ?

If the criteria are "must be the same chassis as an MX5" then only an MX5 will do. The criteria as set seem needlessly limiting.
If the question is "which convertible sports car would you spend 8 grand on" then there are many alternatives, each of which will deviate from the MX5 to some extent, and most of which won't instantly lose £2k in value like that tuned MX5.

Although if it was me: a turbo MX5 and 6 grand in change.

I was just recently an underbidder on this beauty.

MK1 BBR Turbo, 165bhp. It sold for £3100. Looked clean and tidy.

Come on, this was on PH last week - as we all now know, insuring an S2000 is a joke. That is why they are so cheap.

An MX5 costs about the same to insure as a family hatchback. Sure - that's because it's slower - I'd rather have an S2000 too, but saying it's a no-brainer is really short-sighted.

To put it another way, the average insurance cost on an S2000 would buy you an MX5 of reasonable vintage.

Sure, standard MX5s aren't expensive to insure, but how about ones with £2ks worth of performance mods?

Getting insurance quotes for my MX5 is a nightmare.

You can buy a S2000 for £4k for a start and that has 240bhp as standard.

Did you not read the first few posts.
Try looking at the thread on Nutz you will see I have answered all your questions, with prices that have been confirmed including 4 trackdays included.

Hint £4--

I read the entire first page of this thread without seeing insurance mentioned once. Unless you mean a thread on Nutz, in which case I'm not going to go looking for it.

I'm paying £3-- for my turbo MX5, with track day cover.

However my MX5 costs more than my Elise to insure, despite being worth less than quarter as much, having tiny repair costs and being slower.

My MX-5. sold earlier this year, was under £200 fully comp for me and the missis. Classic policy with RH, recommended.

Re earlier comment about cars like this needing to come from Mazda, don't really agree, remember testing the original BBR turbo and it was brilliant. And that was the lower-powered option as I recall.
