Never understood why they took over Rover. Yes the Mini, RR and Land Rover all are good and sell well. The difference is these had a current product and image that BMW used. De Tomaso lacks that, but I do see it working in the same way the Audi R8 does to Lamborghini. Both have gained. A new BMW M1 would be a rival to that R8, why not do the same as with the R8 and used the same parts in a new De Tomas.

BMW took over Rover because at the time Rover were on the up and saw them as a rival, albeit fwd. Rover soaked up too much cash.
I must admit I can't really see the need to by De Tomaso. I personally believe that M division could get away with building a bespoke sports/supercar as AMG have with the SLS, if BMW would give the green light. If they did it right. If anything M should've been let of the leash 5 years ago.
One attraction of De Tomaso could be that it's all history, nothing in production now. Clean sheet of paper etc, whatever BMW isn't VW. BMW would do it more right than Audi and Lamborghini.

How so, I don't see Lambo having put a foot wrong so far.

I hate to point out the schoolboy error but highlighting that it's something of a man's which is intended for other men would be an indication of homosexuality.

Also, you sound like a moron.

If BMW want to build yet another stty profiteering biased car (im not calling it super because it wont even be close) why doesnt BMW f*****g build it instead of ruining DeTomaso to trade substandard cars under the meaningfull (until BMW f**k it up that is) DeThomaso name?
They will ruin the brand in the same way BMW, VWAG and FIAT have ruined every brand theyve aquired and then actively poncified in the name of profits?

DeTomaso is a mans car for real men, BMW's are poncified repmobiles for fags.
IT DOESNT FIT SO DONT RUIN IT TO MAKE IT FIT

BMW couldnt even muster a billionth of the passion the name DeTomaso invokes.
Does it matter if DT doesn't exist any more? if BMW can start doing a modern version of this

then I'm down with it

But they wont build anything true to DeThomaso so why ruin the heritage?
They will definitely build a BMW which is more like this.
Jesus, did someone in a BMW beep their horn and make you poo your nappy or something? I think you have issues old chap, go see your doc, now

Don't get more wrong I love Lamborghini's too. Audi haven't done a bad with Lambo but... They spread too many VW/Audi parts across the more sexy brands. The same SatNav units sits in the Gallardo, the R8 and my TTS. Same with other bits. Some parts sharing makes sense of course, if you can't see the part/component etc then it's the way to go... Higher up the brands, £100k R8 has the same TT seats. If I was buying a £170+k Gallardo I'd want to see more bespoke parts, exclusive to Lambo. You don't see Alfa kit in a Ferrari. Of course it's the VW way, margin and profit. Yes it's a business and they should make a profit but a little more bespoke stuff for Bentley, Lambo etc could only enhance the brands.
How many times have folk said the R8 is just a cheap Gallardo? We know it's not but more unique kit and tech would be welcome.
So more a could do better. If my numbers came up... Yep, I'd still order a Gallardo. Slave to the machine smile

I see that but can't see how BMW would do it any differently. I am no fan of the BMW coupe concepts seen so far as thay all tend to be a slave to the BMW kidneys so ditching those would be a bonus. However, I've not seen any design by BMW that isn't extremely Germanic/BMW and my fear is we'd just get the lazy option which is an M5 based supercar in a dress. After all, the chassis is already there so why NOT just concentrate on a sublime design.

Hm... Their range is after all German so yes they look Germanic. They've had a free hand with Rolls Royce, MIMI and the imminent to be replace Range Rover was all BMW's handy work. None of them Germanic, the MINI although not faithful to the original minis still look like nothing but Brit designed and the interior too larey and funky to be ever though German.
A 7 series platform sits under a Rolls but no one complains.
If BMW go the whole way with De Tomaso it won't be just graphing a nose and back end on a 5 or 6 series. Bimmer knows people will see straight through that like Mercedes found out with S Classes dressed as Maybach.
This whole De Tomaso thing is only a rumour, no one is sure. It's been said that it maybe just the assets, the factory etc.

Don't waste any time on this troll.

Judging by his 'outrageous' comments and fondness for gratuitous expletives on this and previous threads - he mistakenly thinks he's the reincarnation of the late, great Bill Hicks (only without the brains) - I think he might be 12.

I'm thinking Pantera prices are heading upwards if they aren't already. They seem to be cheaper in the states.

When I was younger I always lusted after this later version even though I think perhaps it lacks some of the style of the earlier examples.

The 70's and 80's Pantera's remind me a bit of the 288 GTO shape

That's the Pantera Si.

Wikipedia says they produced around 500 bhp but I think they're wrong. With the Ford V8 Windsor they were less powerful than the Cleveland powered earlier Pantera's.

That's the one... I had this nagging feeling it looked like something else, not the 288 GTO mentioned.

A quick and interesting comment, did you know that "Pantera" is a common girls name in parts of south America. Not important, but interesting.

Yes it was witty - unlike anything you've ever posted.

Please go an troll somewhere else, it's getting beyond pathetic now.
