And with emissions of less than 100g/km it could be a real winner for them. I wouldnt even mind if it go nowhere near the claimed economy because Mr Tax man wouldnt be having my pants down (quite as much).
I would guess at mid-high forties real world mpg in near silence most of the time with a superbly smooth transmission and better reliability than a diesel. Wouldn't stink of diesel and vibrate like a tractor either.

Its not a V6 - its an in-line 4 cylinder 2.5 litre

No, that is a bit disappointing but at least it seems to be a new engine, Atkinson cycle and direct injection. It will be competing with 4 cylinder diesels for the most part so it should trump them easily for refinement.

I have always though Lexus were a pretty interesting brand. Japanese+luxury are two things that go together very well. But their recent styling has been terrible. The last generation IS looked awful. This looks pretty dire too, that front grille is ridiculous.

The last gen IS looking awful? Compared to what?

The competition, both contemporary and long since past. And the first IS. The first IS looked great at the front (the back has aged very poorly, I will concede). But this one looks very sloppy at the front. Big dumb 'smiling face' grille arrangement with squinty looking headlights. Slab sided doors, not aided by a lack of muscularity at the back. A coupe-like glass line and sloping rear roof section that I suppose motoring journalists would say was 'unresolved'.

Looks fantastic. I just hope it's got some poke to go with it. Fast looking cars that aren't actually that fast is probably the most annoying thing in the world.

Plus that front grille set-up; Predator anyone?

"Unmasked micro bust"? You been looking at the topless Kate pics again?

Very nice!

Now, how about an M3 rivalling version. Scrap the hybrid crap and get a nice 3+ litre 6 pot in there!

Rap stars and alike will love the front grill. Very bling.

Nice looking car though. In reality we know it won't look as good.

Why dont Lexus just buy BMW's and nail Lexus badges to them? There is little difference looking at the thiongs.
Designers are lazy, they simply copy whats on sale already.

Pathetic industry with little innovation.

Lol... So simple. Besides, BMW can't be just bought! Do some homework wink
Incidentally BMW and Toyota are in partnership... Toyota get BMW diesel engines and BMW work with Toyota on battery/hybrid tech.

Looks like they get BMW panels, trim and body ancilliaries. Dont seem to get the BMW grill though, that looks different in the pictures.

Is it me or does the rear look rather similar to the Honda Accord (the shape before the current one)?!

Bland. And the only thing that keeps it from extra-bland is the tarted up show-car features like extra-large wheels/tires that never appear on the production car. Lexus makes very comfortable and amazingly dependable transportation appliances. They are absolutely not for car enthusiasts. Well, except for that limited production 10-cylinder sports car - that took them 10 years to decide to build. By the time it was released, with the ridiculous price and car trading limitations, it was old news.
