I own a V12 manual volante DB7 and love it. MPG is horrendous but general maintenance
is exceptable. As for the i6 being a Jag in drag that is usually just from bar room 'experts'
who dont know quite as much about the car as they think, and as Clarkeson said 'we are 98%
DNA wise, the same as a Halibut, but it's the 2% that makes all the difference!!

Is it just me that thinks Zagato generally take a good looking car and make it look a whole lot worse? It doesn't matter as they are always built in very limited numbers and get sold, but to my eyes at least, the DB7 Zagato and the V12 Vantage Zagato both ruin the models they are based on.

Please explain what merits the XK8 as better in your opinion? That is not a challenge but a mere questioning of your views... Much cheaper to purchase.

Obviously you car enthusiasts are incorrect then. It's based on an XJS but the chassis had a lot of modifications done to it, it isn't just rebodied

I saw a Zagato in the metal in Mayfair once, and it looked stunning. Unfortunately, the camera angle used here fails to show the very aggressive treatment of the classic AM grille. The car looked like some kind of giant robotic alligator. There are a few cars that don't do 2D very well and this is one of them - but in 3D they're gorgeous. Definitely on my million-pound garage list.

Running costs are what you should focus on. I had one from new for three years and the repair bills under warranty were hair-raising. The service manager said the car had something like £50k spent on it whilst under warranty.
My tip is find a local specialist who knows these cars and find a warranty company to cover it.--I have driven Porsches every since I sold it, but its a beautiful car no doubt----and people are so polite to you when they see it!!

Moving to Australia in less than a year, and the temptation to go to the UK, buy a Maserati 3200 and bring it with me is growing.....and if im fair it was king kong godzilla sized beforehand. Christ I want one, LHD is just too rich for me sadly. That or a TVR, I think top off V8 burble would be improved by adding a beach and a few Aussie women

I fear time has dulled the memory on the DB7 .I recall taking a new one out with my boss for the a couple of days on test, up into the Yorkshire Dales full of eager anticipation.
Sure the name had great presence and sitting behind the badge was pretty special too. But oh when it was my turn to drive, it was awful , starting with the dampers struggling to keep up with the weight of passengers and luggage . Understeer, yes sir, how much would you like? when pushing on into corners the steering was sticky and the engine was asthmatic .

It was slow in and slow out ,perhaps the manuals were better but the auto box was antiquated at launch.
Good looks , some nice leather trim but better off impressing the Golf club members , not the Drivers Club.

Car enthusiasts are supposed to know about cars! The rebodied XJS myth is widespread pub blah, but it isn't true. The DB7 is based on a developed XJS platform, but it isn't a Jag in drag. EDIT: GeorgeH beat me to it.
I cant for the life of me think why Aston allowed some one to disfigure a beautiful car like that. It kind of reminds me of pretty girls having horrendous plastic surgery.

My late father's Zagato is pictured above. It was a 2004 model car and was number 70 of the 99 built. It was the only one in the colour combination of Tungsten grey exterior and Claret red interior.
He had numerous problems with corrosion, but they were all rectified by Aston Martin under warranty. There were no problems mechanically as far as I'm aware.
The car was sold, does anyone have any idea of where it is residing now, just out of curiosity?
The XJS was an ugly duckling and it matured over age, don't people think the Zagato will go down the same avenue?
I've heard the running costs on these are pretty steep, far more than the later DB9, V8 Vantages which is why prices have fallen so low, since early examples of these cars are now give or take a bit around the 30k ish mark
It looks loverly, but the interior is a big turn off for me, and it would have to be the V12 aswell, the inline 6 for me does not come off that well in comparison to the XK8, in fact i'd probably take a V12 XJRS over one aswell
