Really? Never had a problem but last time I hired in the States was 5 or 6 years ago. Are they getting touchy about British paper licences? I'm off there in January nd may well want a car as I'm there for 2 weeks.
This year at the age of 56 I was for the first time in my life asked for photo id to buy a beer in the USA. I would get a photo licence.

Thanks, if it's just getting a beer that's a problem I go to a different bar. I'll stick with my paper licence. I'm also 56
I asked if I would still have got the beer if I was not carrying photo ID, in this driving licence. Apparently they call the manager for a decision. E30M3SE said:
Genuine question.
Does having the old paper only licence really cause issues hiring a car in the US, as surely one cannot get any better photo id than your passport which as a UK resident/citizen travelling to the US one would presumably have on ones person?
