From 2005 - 2006 I was using my Volvo 240 saloon to commute to work on a daily basis. It was at the time 22 years old.

Was using an 1996 E36 328i for a 70 mile daily commute. 233k. Sold it to a mate, hope he gets to 238k (distance to moon).

I ran a 1982 E21 316 BMW as a daily for 3.5 years and around 30k miles. Sold it over 12 months ago now and using the E38 which is only 12 years old and 125.6k miles!

Cos the missus's 1988 Mk2 1.3 Astra (215k) is finally being restored, she's now using her 1991 1.2 Nova everyday for commuting (~50 miles) and the occasional market stall. Can get a good sized gazebo, 3 folding tables as well as £2-300 worth of cakes and cookies in the poor thing. Get's 42-43MPG too, but it is the lowest mileage car in the house at 104k.
Jeez your restoring a mk2 astra , i used to drive a 1990 mk2 astra as a company car for a Glasgow based estate agent.

From 2006 - 2007 I was using a 1966 Chev Impala as a daily driver, ie 40yrs old, had 20,000 miles showing on odo, since the odo only went to 99,999 it may have been around a few times. Was reliable but had virtually no safety equipment, just some little lap belts and a little pad on top of the metal dash. Braking hard in the wet was interesting.. (4 wheel drums)

Ran a '91 w124 on a 100mile commute for a year. I guess it had it in the region of 300 and something on the clock. No breakdowns or drama but I did a bit of preventive maintenance after buying it- new battery, glow plugs, all the oils etc. Had the odd suspension clonk and sporadically changed bits like ball joints, bushes etc.

1990 BMW325i and it's just about to roll up 150k on the clock, though most of the major components have been replaced / upgraded.

1970 Volvo Amazon.

1990 Sierra XR4x4.

Both used daily in all weathers – they live outside as I don’t have a garage.

The Sierra is off the road at the moment (awaiting a windscreen wiper switch) so I drove the Amazon in to work today.

It amazes and annoys me that the general public think that a car is worn out after 10 years/100k miles... if you look after them; they’ll last as long as you!

Is it a fashion thing or are people just ignorant and/or stupid?
Not really fashion (although that plays a part) or even "unserviceable" electronics. 3 killer words. Dual Mass Flywheel. The cost of replacing one can easily be more than the value of the car that is just a few years old.

(My 1991 XR4x4 is awaiting fuel line repair for the MoT)

My daily is a 1985 VW Scirocco. Owned it since 1999 and it gets driven year round and lives outside. Preventative maintenance means its always been A1. Nice to potter about in something that's not a common sight on the roads anymore.

Until May this year my daily was a 1967 Austin mini based scamp kit car, I now drive a positively modern 1989 Metro van, it's only a 66 mile round trip each day!

1990? That's too futuristic for me biggrin

It's a 1954... gets driven over a thousand miles a month.

I'm not afraid to driver it in Manhattan traffic..

On other days, like today for instance, I'll drive the newer "driver", this... 1960 Lincoln. Here it is trying to eat a Honda Insight that was annoying it.

Until 18 months ago I used my 1967 Triumph MK1 2.0 Litre Vitesse daily on my 70 mile commute , never missed a beat and a real drivers car. friend I work with now uses his 1939 Riley Kestrel as his daily driver as I think his 1920s Morgan trike is a little too old!
