OK so apparently "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" but my neighbour ,(with whom I am friendly but not friends as such), has announced that he intends to buy exactly the same make model and colour car as mine.

Its a free country and graciously gave him some pointers on choosing a good one, but something about this does not feel comfortable.Do I need to MTFU or I am right to feel a bit odd about it? (Its only a black Golf R32 not a lime green Veyron after all).

It's a weird thing to do, but MTFU smile

My Dad's next door neighbour bought an identical Megane Scenic after I got him one - but just one spec up rolleyes

Maybe he just likes the look of it and wants one for himself? I really can't see the problem! smile

We bought an almost identical car to one of our nieghbours

Same model, same age, same options just a different colour

Does this make us sad

Or is it just a very good car for living in the country?

If you really don't want him to have the same car. Go round and tell him the gearbox fell out and VW are charging you £5k for a replacement! lol.

Or just sell him yours and buy and Mx5 wink

I can see why it would be annoying, but just smile and ignore it.

When we bought our Fiesta ST (hardly the most exciting car out there) a neighbour copied us by buying a white one (except they had OTT stripes on theirs) and a friend of mine bought a white one too.

When he came round I always hoped his girlfriend would bring her car... but I just ignored it and it never hurt me.

I once bought the same car as the guy who lived opposite. It never once occured to me that I was doing so until I got it home and realised he had the exact same thing sat on his drive.

Mine had lesser spec but better looking (imo) alloys though cool

I'm really failing to see the problem here. Would it annoy you that a neighbour had bought the same telly, dishwasher, fridge or cooker? What's different about a car?

haha, if anything i would think it's nice if someone saw my car and wanted to buy one too. certainly would not have a problem with it!

go and modify yours if you want it to stand out. i don't think you can really buy a stock, mass-produced car in 1 of 3 colours and be upset when someone has the same car as you!!!!!!

I'd find that annoying, I hope he doesn't park directly next to you, that would look silly.

I don't like having the same car as other people I know, I achieve this by buying 20 year old Jag's.

I recommend selling the Golf and getting something more unconventional/obscure!

You should watch out OP. He's probably some sort of deranged serial killer and you're his next victim!

Or, maybe he didn't want to post another what car thread on here so he copied you?
