Ok thanks so youve answered why you want the bentley now and i see your point. However i wouldnt go for it for a few reasons, the first being the cost isnt worth it, £6k pa can lease a nice brand new s class etc or pay for some lovely holidays.

But, you want british, power and to stick two fingers up at the prius brigade?

May i suggest a newish shape jaguar xjr? They start at £5k and are big, powerful, nice inside and much cheaper to run.

Turbo vs. Lexus....would you rather have dinner at Broadlands with Louis Mountbatten or a sandwich and a latte with semi-skimmed milk at EAT with Tony Blair?

Jesus* wept, I cannot believe how many people are wittering on about safety and extreme running costs.

Honestly the Bentley is the size of a small warship, other vehicles need to fear you, not the other way around. Also how often do you read about somebody being killed or injured in a Roller or Bentley? How about never?

As for running costs, yes some parts will be silly expensive, some bits will be cheap, the fuel economy wont be good and if you take it to a dealer you will be bent over and ......

But at least its not a dull, worthy Lexus, you will be able to tell your grand kids how you ran a Bentley for a bit, well until your money ran out anyway.

THIS.

On a smaller scale i'm looking at a winter hack. In the barge market so logic says (and PH) an old BMW E38 or maybe an A8 or of course a Lexus. All good cars i'm sure but i'll be buying a Jag, with a six pot and swathes of dead cow because it floats my boat and will make me smile wayyyyyy more than the aforementioned metal!

You obviously do not understand how crumple zones work. There is an interesting fifth gear video involving a Volvo estate from the 80s vs a small modern Renault I suggest you watch.

May I ask why you run such automotive pleasures such as a diesel zx, celica gt and an e39 instead of a Turbo r if you feel so strongly about dull cars?

I do love these threads. Anyone with a itoa of experience with the cars say to be wary of costs, while chaps like yourself, seemingly with no history involving them tells an op to go for it because it is a bentley, but never own one themselves

Ha I know exactly how crumple zones work but firstly you need to be in a pretty big crash to benefit. I stand by my point how many horrible crashes involving Rollers and Bentleys do you hear about? I just don't get the complete f@cking paranioa about safety? Sure I wouldn't want to pack my kids (if I had any) into a bubble car but as I do most of my driving on my own I couldn't care less!

Secondly I currently run two cars (the Citreon is long gone), the Celica is the dull everday car and I have a 28yr old project (E28 not E39 big difference)to faff about with. I tend to bite off way more than I can chew with cars and their running costs (I have no money!). If I could afford a mid range Lexus I would definitely be looking to stretch to something more interesting!

Edit to add you don't appear to own any cars at all, so really cant comment!

Just a quick question: Why are some earlier cars referred to as Red or Green label? I thought this was meant to distinguish between the Arnages with a Bentley engine or BMW unit: eBay Bentley

I'm still researching this BTW...

I spent a few days driving a Bentley Turbo R when I was a member of the Classic Car Club. It was great fun and I have never been flirted with by so many women (a good enough reason to buy one?!). It also made a haughty and proud looking BMW 5 series driver literally shrink when I pulled up next to him in traffic.

Because it's being sold by a moron.

Red / Green / Black label only relate to Arnages. AFAIK, all Brooklands and Turbos came with red labels.

Green was a short run Arnage with the BMW 4.4. Black labels were put on the Arnage T, to distinguish it from the boggo 6.75 V8.

You could have any colour badges you wanted anyway, it was just a matter of specifying them at order, if you were aware there was a choice.
