I do get frustrated by the chav comments - I get a bit of grief over it, yet I am still unable to find any justification. I go to alot of MLR meets and they are all owned by 30+ year old enthusiasts who know alot about engineering and the vehicles history.
I cannot find a chav driver amongst them.

Scoobies, well thats another matter.

I think maybe its jealousy most of the time
That's probably because the chav drivers don't bother going to meets with motoring enthusiasts aged 30 and over. I can assure you though that they definitely do exist, as I see them at weekend nights when I'm working in town. They are always just doing laps of the city with a loud exhaust, and maybe some loud rave music pouring out of the open windows. I've wondered before why they bother buying such fancy cars just to drive around the city centre on their own, but I suppose they want to look down on the others who are mostly driving Corsas and Astras with massive exhausts.

I can however testify to comments regarding the AYC. My 6 is not long past 70k on the clock. On my third pump! Sorted now but was almost heading towards getting an RS Diff installed.

The most amazing four door family (if you can call it that) saloon I'm ever likely to own (Don't like potholes though and don't like the expansion joints across the Forth road bridge!)

This. Plenty of them on track days

This image thing is very worrying. You cannot drive any car that isn't a BMW/Audi euro box without feeling self conscious in this country. Why should someone who drives an exciting car be told to 'grow up', but a 30 something bloke walking round with his head in his iphone looking at Facebook, that's acceptable. Trailer the car to a trackday to beat them at their own game, but should you have to.

Really? *Touch wood* mine is on the original pump and still working fine.

You dont have to go with the RS Diff if its only the pump you are having problems with, you can put a quife ATB in the AYC diff casing.

Not exactly a car designed with NVH-minimisation in mind though is it? My Type R is tiring in a similar fashion. Short gears, high revs, loud drone at part load etc, wears you down mentally compared to something designed to do miles in comfort.
2 hours?!?!?!??!

yes of course there are better cars.... I've driven to Ring loads of times non-stop in all kinds of cars and some are easier than others... and I admit I am quite hardcore.

but 2 hours and knackered? ok Princess! Its supposed to be a buying guide on a site for petrolheads! its not Mumsnet!

Yeah they aren't that bad, but they can be a bit tiring due to the lack of sound deadening (even in the GSR). But the seats are comfortable.

Good video of the Evo 6 vs rivals of the same era.

I think it does very well for a 4 door saloon car!

He's entitled to his opinion as are you. For information, there are as many people that support his views as those that don't. So he's welcome here.

Ok, so mine was an EVO V, but i do think the V & VI are the best Evo's - However this is probably down to my personal opinion on the looks (With, for me, the Evo V being the most dramatic).

I purchased mine about 11 years ago, and even though there were no official UK EVO V's, I bought mine as a very lightly used and freshly imported car direct from my local Mitsubishi Dealership, with full Warranty!
Tony (Who i am sure any Sussex based Evo owners will be familiar with) @ Brighton Mitsubishi was great, and knew these cars inside out, and told me how they would honour the warranty even if i modified the car (They just would not warranty the aftermarket parts).

I'm not sure what my overall abiding opinion of the car is:

It could be the mammoth cost of ownership compared with the Porsche 944 Turbo i owned before it - My car was slighly modified with a Blitz Induction kit, Blitz Blow Off Valve, full Blitz Exhaust system and a Ralliart ECU, but it would empty a tank of optimax in a 120 miles, had to be serviced every 4.5k, if a clutch went then you always had to factor in a new flywheel too and the insurance was horrific along with the cost of Discs and pads.

Or i might best remember it for the way it could eat a friends Sierra Cosworth with double the power output (600+bhp), the way you could get the rear end out and just keep the steering wheel as was, give it more gas and just power out of 'those moments' - or simply the way I would find myself waking at 3am and jumping into the car to do nothing more than to attack my favourite local roads whilst they were quiet.

I have thought about owning another one, but at now in my late 30's I’d just feel like a bit of a tool driving such a lairy looking Jap Box.

This was mine (Taken on a parade lap at a Goodwood charity Track Day) Apart from the mechanical modifications mentioned above, it ran on a set of Evo VI alloy wheels.

Just take in any of those MacDonalds on industrial estates and you will also see why they are not at enthusiast meets. They wouldnt fit in (in most cases) with the enthusiast and as you rightly say, its not about a love of the car, its about having a faster car than your mates or other MacDonald hang about ers!

Unfortunately my car is falling into the hands or realms of the chav, the good thing is, the stigma surrounding the rotary puts them off. However, if i do swing by for a Big Mac of an evening they will in most cases try to take the opportunity to "race" you on the surrounding dual carriage ways as you leave! You see them leaping into the cars as you go into the drive through entrance, only to be ready as you leave!

Mind you, in my teenage years the car of choice of the boy racer was any Ford displaying a RS or Mexico badge, i avoided them like the plague, but would dearly love one now smile

In true PH fashion we're told (even by moderators) "if you don't like thread, don't post, leave the thread" (Jamie P GTR thread over modifications springs to mind, many deleted posts etc)

This thread has nothing to do with deluded owners or imaginary values, hence I decided to speak up.

If you link me to the thread I'll be happy reiterate what I've posted in here.

Don't get me wrong I would love an Evo at some point in my life but I didn't realise that the VI was, IMO, a fairly ugly car in side profile

They're all ugly. They look like they were designed by a 12 year old boy with crayons; Imprezas as well. But, that's not why you buy them. You buy them for the all wearther 5am moors run when everyone else is asleep. That way the roads are clear and no one can see you driving it biggrin

I think its just you two now actually.... wink

The very nice and genuine car enthusiast selling the RS500 (that Sodslaw is calling a 'nobber') has come on and shown that he has had genuine interest and bids of £62k for the car when it was advertised at £75k. Lots of other people explained why its advertised at what at first glance seems an amazing amount for an old Sierra

Sodslaw is entitled to his views... but sniping and wrongly slagging people off on a thread that the seller of the car in question is never gonna see?

I'm with NotNormal.
