Looks like a great competitor for the G.

G is still cooler, but LR should definitely something in this flavour from the showroom to compete.

Nicest one I've seen/heard, but If I was in the market for one, I wouldn't be able to justify that price.

I may be a philistine, and antidiluvian, but wouldn't it make sense to buy an older, 'hanging' (ie body dents etc) version, and THEN upgrade the engine, transmission, suspension and brakes?
So it would look like poo but go like poo off a stick......

Re this statement in the title -'Like an AMG G-Wagen, only British and better' - opinion or fact? I'd like to see the two of them in a back to back test, it's hard to tell which is 'better' unless you've got criteria you're measuring each of them against.
Because its Olympic and Jubilee year so there........................

Why so serious are you thinking of buying one?

Naw - I'm through my V8 Landrover phase, been there, done that, got the muddy T-shirt. I still have an interest in these vehicles and like to read how they compare to each other. The title got me thinking - what makes one of these vehicles better than the other - more power? seats more people? handles better off-road (or on)? will last longer? less NVH, etc

snorkel and extra low exhaust pointing out the side?
The thing that always bugged me about driving a defender with a snorkel is that there isn't another snokel for the driver.

No point having a running engine if the driver drowns.

To be fair a snorkel is as much about keeping the air intake out of the dust cloud as it is water.

The head would want turned around to keep it out of dust.

The snorkel on that is an ornament.

Unfortunately at that price the G wagon, (or a second hand one) is better in every way..

I've always liked the idea of a 350 Chevy engine sitting in a 110 with uprated transmission etc.

It makes no odds which way round, the engine is still sucking in a stload of air. The important difference is that the intake is a good bit higher and not straight behind the wheel arch.

A few years ago a friend put a new 454 Chev in a 110 pick up. That was a quick car to drive. He also had the expertise to upgrade the suspension and brakes.

What would you want, gold plated ones? This is a Defender, not a million-mile corner shop owner's special Lexus LS400.

POP RIVETS AND CHECKER PLATE FOR 90K, NAFF AND NASTY, ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE AND OLD SD1 ROVER , IF IT WAS 20K IT WOULD STILL BE OVER PRICED.

Slightly more frightening than the look of the thing is that even in its short 10,000km life its burnt over £3000 worth of petrol! Now that is scary!

A bit on the harsh side there. A lot of time and effort has been put in putting that car together.

If it were down to me i'd use aero-spec fastners and rivets (countersunk if needed) wherever possible, nylon washers to prevent disimilar corrosion and stainless nuts, bolts washers etc. Along with a full galvanised chassis and bulkhead and soldered joints and terminals in the wiring loom.

Then when putting it back together extra care taken shimming the panels, doors etc so they fit together correctly and look right.

The old issue of water leaks, every seal, gasket joint, and mating surface would have the addition of a sealing compound during assembly which doesnt happen at the factory.

I reckon that'll care of any issues further on down the years.
