BMW 740i. Can hold its own. Not epic quick off the line but never really found wanting otherwise.

Nope, my definition of fast was redefined after a passenger ride in a Hayabusa Westfield which in the grand scheme of things is probably only on the nippy side.

My old T5 Volvo was quite brisk though, punched well above its weight

Quick or fast?

My Hawk is very quick. But, not really fast. I consider my Maserati to be a fast car. My Fiat 500 Twin Air is neither.

Weekend runabout / current track car fast enough ~200bhp/tonne. Proper track car 360bhp/tonne, thats fast. Daily rider 370bhp/tonne thats fast, weekend rider 685bhp/tonne - thats proper quick smile

Rover 75 1.8 NA. And the amusing thing is that it's still three full seconds quicker to sixty than my last car. smile

The landrovers don't do anything quick apart from rust

The unimog doesn't understand the name of fast but it has no concept of the word stuck

Yes, it's definitely fast enough, my Audi A8 4.2 Quattro. I'm usually a turbo lover but the V8 engine is ideal for punch at any speeds. It has far more grunt than is really needed in the UK, but it's also usefully quick below that as it has bags of grip from the AWD system.

Is it as fast as say, my old MR2 Turbo? No, not that fast. But it's still pretty damn quick, especially one up, and it keeps pulling where my old turbo cars were running out of breath.

Define "fast" i.e acceleration, 0-60 etc.etc. I have a Ford Mondeo Estate. I had it at max Leptons at J8,M25 when I met an unmarked Audi; should have known better being in Bandit country but yes,at that time my Dad taxi was "fast!!!" BTW he was an basolut gent by giving me his best glare then going after the mid-lane hoggers!! Phew!
That's kind of the point. Any self respecting petrolhead can work out, on paper, which of two cars should faster in a specific arena. I'm talking more about if you feel as though its fast.

Good enough to be amusing. 350Z, 0-60 in 5.8s, 0-100 in 14.3s, top speed 155 MPH. I reckon its a sweet spot between not slow at all, but not too fast you can't use it.

It depends on what kind of stuff you've driven before, I suppose. To me, my Focus RS is quick (a 300bhp hot hatch couldn't ever really be considered anything less I don't think!), but it's not 'fast'. When I took a 12-year-old family friend out in it, though, he was utterly gobsmacked by its performance. His parents have a diesel Skôda Superb, so that's all he knew! When I went out in a 997.2 Turbo, I had the same reaction. hehe

I'll go through the current family fleet smile

Audi A3 - I suppose no, its a 1.4, but it is quite nippy and good fun.
Porsche Boxster S - Oh yes! biggrin
Nissan Micra - Certainly not - but give it a tight, twisty country lane and the right gear it goes well enough.

No. 320d but its fast enough as a commute car.

My old Cayman S was quick and hit a genuine 170 in Germany but it still wasn't that squeeze the air out of your lungs fast.
