I view my Legacy as having enough power to make progress - I don't view it as a fast car as I have been fortunate enough to drive some stuff that I would deem to be 'fast' in just about any company.

However freinds of mine who have never driven anything quicker than a 1.6 Astra think it's outrageously fast - especially across country.

Fast is a completely relative term.

Lotus Exige. It's brisk but not manic, I suppose. However, there are moments when you're traversing narrow lanes using the full rev range through the first three gears that it feels borderline unhinged. That's a combination of the ridiculous noise, the response, the grip, the lack of inertia in every direction and your proximity to the road.

Definitely quick enough for the road and for my abilities.

Clio 182 - No. Dead below 5k RPM and by the time you get there it's usually time to start slowing down again.

Previously I owned a 320bhp Impreza STI and that was fast! Even then on the odd occasion you'd get totally 'used to it' but it was good enough most of the time smile

Feels fast but then it's only a 2.2TDCI Mondeo.
Driving alongside a 300bhp Focus it seems like a snail.
Can't imagine how quick on the roads cars with over 300bhp are and how easy it is to get to license breaking speeds...

It might surprise some, but I regard my Evo X FQ330 as quick, but not genuinely fast. I've driven a supercharged Z06. THAT was terrifyingly fast. The Evo is nowhere near supercar league, regardless of what some STI and Evo owners claim.

Which do you prefer between the STI and Evo?

Fast? Yes, I feel it is and the difference in power is noticable when jumping into another car. I know it can be much faster but no way am I even going to try that on public roads.

Touareg - it can shift - having been remapped

Bentley Turbo R - not really

E55 AMG - too fast. Genuinely, I'll lose my licence at some point. Far too powerful and quiet. I don't notice until I get to c130

What is this, top trumps?

Fast = high top speed.
Quick = good acceleration.

Mine has about 430Bhp/tonne (until I get in it). It's geared to do 60 in 1st, but it tops out at ~140mph.

It all depends what you compare it to. If you're comparing with a bike, it's neither quick nor fast. If you're comparing to fastest roadgoing cars you can buy, it's a second or so off the pace to 60.

With a top speed of 140, you couldn't call it fast.

Nope and nope.

Isn't a more relevant question "do you drive your car fast?" Let's face it 99% of cars can be driven "fast" compared to speed limits and the general flow of lawfully driven traffic.

Mapped Astra VXR, feels fast to me, will do 150mph without too much argument, can easily get 1.20mph down a slip road and 95% of the time is in front of whatever is trying to catch it.

however... the 5% of the time i meet someone with something really quick, it feels like i left the handbrake on.

before the map i came up against a VXR8 on the A12.. we were already doing 50 then the traffic cleared. Events like this help remind you that you will never have the fastest thing on the road laugh

Supercharged Monaro here with about 800HP. It was fast until it blew up in April, currently having a new engine fitted.
Kawasaki ZX12R, yes that's fast too, about the same as the Monaro when it's working.

Also have a Disco 3. Goes as fast as you'd ever want to go in something that weighs 3 tonnes, especially around the corners!
