I refer you back to clarksons comment about TVR with no airbags or ABS.... Dont Crash it.
I've seen lots of racing Caterhams crashed HARD, they're surprizingly stiff. This doesn't necessarily make them 'safe', of course, but in my opinion the strength of the chassis tubes isn't the problem- it's the whole construction method of the car. If they hit something solid they decelerate a little bit too well.

I refer you back to it's intended usage. Sometimes it isn't your fault and in racing accidents happen. Clever b0llocks.
Is the racing going to involve much higher speeds though? Sure they'll get to the race pace quicker, but are the current R500 series power-limited or grip-limited? I'd imagine the R500 races aren't flat out round every bend and rarely hit vmax on the straights, so they are probably limited by grip rather than power.

If the race pace doesn't increase much (despite the acceleration being stronger), does the rollcage need to be any more substantial?

shout Staff call for Mr Harris. Mr Harris, there is a chap from Caterham here to see you he says he's fitted it with lights and a 'plate and he'll see you in Wales.

£45k+ is a bit steep when you can get a perfectly good caterham for 10-12k and drop in your own engine of choice and have serious power, good suspension wheels and tyres for 15k all in and similar power outputs for under 20k.

That's without even looking at westfields etc.

For it's own race series fair enough.

yes, because the chassis, gearbox, differential, geometry, assembly hardware, suspension components, electronic system, ECU, bodywork etc is exactly the same between an £10-12k Caterham and a spanking new R600... rolleyes

I can't imagine it would take too much to get this on the road. Probably just needs lights and a few sharp edges covered and it will go through an IVA no problem. I reckon you could do that for less than £2k if you weren't picky on lights etc. Compare that to an R500....

The current R300s are limited by gearing, which is fixed. Max out at 127mph and will be on limiter at most circuits. Somewhere like Snetterton, in a tow, you could be bouncing off limiter for hundreds of metres.

So, all depends how it's geared as to how much faster top-end will be.

I must be in the minority here.
Whilst I love it, 45k for a modestly powered engine welded into some steel bars seems extortionate.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a woman saying "How much??????", merely looking at this objectively.
Seriously, why does this cost more than something like a Focus St? What is your money being spent on?
I dont understand it at all.
