I'll have one in white.

Love it.

ps.

What is this chat about weight ALL THE TIME???

My mk1 mx5 weighs about a ton. This is 50% heavier but has more than double the power and performance. I assure you it is much more comfortable too.

My tuppence.

I do like it, but is the gearshift any better than that on the manual E90 M3? I thought that was awful.

Ugh! Plug ugly like all new BMW's from Bangle era onwards and £40k!
What can you bur for 40K these days. Audi R8, Aston Martin V8, Porsche 911 turbo, Ferrari 355, Bentley Continental, BMW M1 if tatty, BMW E46 M3 CSL, Jaguar XK-R, Honda NS-X, Lotus Exige, Lamborghini Gallardo,
Sorry Chris but if you buy one of these 1M's you are in my humble opinion slightly off beam old boy.

For me the 1M looks like it was beaten with the ugly stick to within an inch of its life then taken to Carlos Fandango BodyMods Ltd for a wheelarch kit and some spurious exhaust tips ...

This summarises exactly the dilema I'm facing right now on what to replace the wifes E92 M3 with.

It's just such a fabulously rounded package and with the DCT box she cat tootle around or I can press the M button and be a hooligan when the mood takes me.

Add in the practicality of being able to get both kids in the back, and it's comfy, luxurious, has the best seats I've sat in...etc

I really can't think what to replace it with, current conclusion is not to as I just can't think of anything better as an all round package.

You are completely wrong Mr Harris!

Why?

"Just enjoyed a quick cuppa and a few Oreos"

How the hell can you enjoys Oreos - they are effin disgusting

RE: the 1M

I agress, love them. It's just a pity they didnt make more colours

I am not a fan of orange cars in general but I think I would take an orange 1M as it make the 1M standout from a normal 1 Series coupe

I saw a white and also a black 1 Series coupe M Sport with CSL style wheels and at first glance it looked like a 1M

I know the 1M has the big arches etc and on closer inspection you can easily tell the difference

Agree with the above, the Aston and Audi would be above this unless I needed 4 seats. I think if you had to stick with BMW and 4 seats, I'd be hard pushed not to go for an E46 CSL for just over half the price. Is the 1M really that much better than a V8 M3 for the same price?

I think it is one of the best looking BMW's ever made.

Would love to drive one.

Different,and gap will increase.

& will it seen as the cheap version of the new turbocharged M3.

Residuals solid at present and that has surprised many and will probably stay above £30k for the baby M.

Great looking car... kinda looks like a baby M5... which got me thinking. scratchchin Why not get a used E60 M5 for £20K then spend the remaining £20K on fuel for that thirsty V10 and the inevitable replacement SMG clutch?

I do like the 1M in principle but id rather save for a bit longer and get the M3 personally - based on looks, noise and high revving V8.

Indeed you are of course right. But it gets old.

I know that car, I purchased my BMW from that garage. It was originally up for 50k and didn't sell.

Lovely looking thing but probably needs a lot doing to it if it's only covered 180 miles in that many years.

Read the article again: "released in the last year". This was a piece about a practical new performance car, with rear seats, for use as a sole car, not another interminable Pistonheads 'Why would you spend 40 grand on a new car when you could get one of these".

This "one car" thing reminds me of a chap who bored me one evening talking about his RS4 estate. He trotted out all the usual stuff. It's an estate car, it's a sports car, it cruises, it's looks right absolutely anywhere, blah blah.

I pointed out that it will never be a people carrier, or a big Volvo-like estate car. He will never feel as connected and wired-in as he would in a lightweight sportscar such as a Caterham or Elise, it will never return the mpg on a long run that other cars do, and he'll never find the valet parking it out the front of the Hotel in Monaco.

In every single way a car like his, or indeed this 1M is a compromise. Far too often we have to live with compromises, and that's fine - that's life. But you have to be able to accept the compromises and realise that is what they are. There's no point in deluding yourself.
