Apart from the stickerbombing seems fine - in fact I'm pretty sure that car has been featured on another forum thread

from experience I would never buy a car from that part of the world again, mainly due to the cold weather- large amounts of salt on the roads and the consequential huge amounts of rust underneath.

I have bought two cars from that area and both were rust ridden and failed MOT's next time round. Hopefully being a volvo and being designed in Sweden that might not be such an issue

I am 100% jealous of you. The engine is legendary, and sounds great. The 850 itself is a bit of a legend.

Ok, I'm only 90% jealous. You're lucky you got the thing so cheap, you're going to need to spend the pennies on front tyres.

I live in the north east of england mate, about 200 metres from the north sea... if it's going to rot away it'll happen here, but I've owned a Mk3 Golf, where rust came from the factory!

Behave!

It's Glasgow, not Iceland... and I'm pretty sure the conditions here as as harsh as anywhere else in the UK and I'm sure every area could be shunned because of it's conditions and surroundings. South coast... oooh, salt water. North Easy... oooo, lots of fallout from factories. Essex... oooh, lots of high heel damaged roof linings.

Anyways, I know the car... was once owned by a friend of mine who bought it and racked up mega miles however it was well looked after mechanically plus the scars and stories just add character. For the money, it's a bloody bargain frankly and had my other half not threatened to divorce me, I'd have had this when it cam up for sale the first time round.

Enjoy it and use it!

Agreed - I bought a car that had spent most of it's life in Gt Yarmouth and Cromer - Looked great for about 9 mths - freaking thing was as rotten as heck - When they dragged DC's Bluebird out of that lake it was in better condition - I'll never buy a coastal car again but that's any coast north south east or west

fk me! yikes You've bought a car which can stand up to trucks picking fights. And then lap the ring. And you paid how much?

There's a lot of win here!

So... last month I bought a Passat V5 as I needed a car asap, got a little sick of the lack of power and lack of mpg, I felt if the car was doing mid 20's mpg I might as well buy something with a bit more oomph.

I do love the 5 cylinder noise, and I do miss the shove of a turbo'd car.

So, ebay today... what's this? A Rica mapped 850 T5 with 15 minutes to go... Kept refreshing and refreshing... stuck a max bid in and won the bugger for the sum of £590.

So I've gone and bought a tuned Volvo estate, in orange, for not a lot of coin. Am I in for a massive world of financial pain and ruin, or some 5 pot turbo winter bangernomics fun?

I've never bought a car unseen and on ebay... I've just insured it (surprisingly cheaply) and I go and pick it up tomorrow.

Some confidence inspiring Volvo T5 related would stories would help my nerves! Anyone?
This was mine for a while, and I did all sorts with it over 2011.
So yes the crash, the 'Ring, the stickerbombing, being a support vehicle for my season in the British Drift Championship, and even it featuring in a national advertising campaign were all in my time!
Sure it'll be just fine. I spent thousands on running it, and did my usual of having everything fixed that ever seemed even slightly wrong. It will have its flaws, but its still a great car I'm sure. It doesn't look like its done much since I owned it to be either. Well it can't have, as it still has the same front tyres on!

I just updated the Retro Rides thread there with an end to the story, so everyone feel free to have a nosey, and join up there too!

And I want the wing back if you're going to normalise it! wink

What a cracking little "random e-bay purchase" thread. Love when a car has some backstory especially when unearthed by chance. OP, keep us informed on your chapter and keep the wing!!!

What a great buy - at least it's got character. A bit of trim restorer on the grey bits and it'll look great, keep the stickerbomb'd wing - it's got a purpose at least.

850 T5 = Great Car. For that money I don't see how you could go wrong, even if it goes bang in 6 months you'll make money breaking it.

What sort of miles is on it? You should get to 250,000 on these with very little problem, turbo might be a worry, brakes could generate some big bills but won't be terminal.

Good buy I'd say.
