By most accounts the reality of the Countach falls far short of the fantasy.
I don't care. It'd still be first in my lotto winning garage. smokin
Same.
I'd be right behind you, but I'm 6'4" so the fantasy will remain pure for me no matter how many numbers come up.

Thank-you for posting the "right" Cannonball clip. The Lambo was a fake in the second??

How to make me stand on the spot, put an F40 on one side and a Countach on the other and ask me to pick one. Doh.
The white/red lambo in CBR 2 was a fake??????
Nope, that Lambo in CBR2 was also genuine. It is listed somewhere on the Lamborghini Registry website.

There was a fake one used in certain shots (along with a real US bummpered one) in the very dodgy third instalment (though I am sure not made by Hal Needham) called Cannonball Fever. Don't even think about watching it though.

Can you imagine way back in the late 1970's, when a Ford Granada 2.8 was a decent car and a 525 BMW was a rare sight, seeing a Countach would be like seeing a Unicorn!! What a futuristic car and even today it looks amazing. Who cares about driving it, very few supercars will ever be great to live with, thats not the point. It is about making a statement, making people gasp and having something people desire. With Farrah Fawcett in the passenger seat, oh heaven!!

In Car Magazine way back in 1986 they had road test between a Testarossa and a Countach. Steve Cropley ended the article with the following...

"An exotic car (supercar) is built for speed and handling and steering and going. Comfort and visibility are secondary. If you are going to have a silly car you may as well have the silliest of the lot especially if it is the quickest and best looking, by a conclusive margin'".

These words still hold true today, Porsche 959 or Ferrari 288GTO ??

I was lucky to have a Testarossa and a Countach Anniversary outside my office window for the past month (place of work is a certain airfield in Surrey)

The sound of the Countach going around the outer road made me dig out the Cannonball Clip a few times.

As many have mentioned, the ultimate poster car as a child. I have a very fond memory of finally hearing one as it rumbled along the road through Bath city center cloud9

I remember a run up to Snetterton one Sunday in a Marcos Mantis, this must have been around 99? I was giving it some, in and out of traffic, when all of a sudden, 2 red Countachs came past me like the clappers, pretty much left me for dead. Even sat in a quad cam Cobra 4.6 powered car, the noise from these Lambo's just blew you away. Certainly pissed on my chips!

I never even got to see on in the 70s and have only recently, in 2011, seen one in the metal and was not disappointed.

The only car that had the same effect on me back in the 70s was a metallic brown Citroen SM which wafted by and was like being passed by a spaceship. Not even Ferraris had the same impact.

The original Trophy Dash can't really be compared to the plastic mockeries for the MTV generation that followed.

One of my favourite videos of the Countach. Not the best quality, no screaming engine footage.. but look at this beautiful beast as it arrives and prowls the grounds looking for its parking space. It's lower than the hotdog cart for god's sake. 42" tall, give or take, which seems ridiculous if you've got a measuring tape handy biggrin

Slightly ruined when the old bloke pops his head out instead of two buxom beauties, but still..

This four minutes of film was where my whole petrolhead fascination began. A red Countach found a home on my wall.

Have been following these video's for a while and if anyone hasn't seen them then they really must. The video's are nothing short of fantastic !

Even the beautifully svelte Espada was only 46.7" high and they look amazing in the flesh too.

I have actually driven a Countach on UK roads and I can tell you that it is an absolute nightmare to drive, no pleasure at all.....so try to forget about how it looked on a poster when you were 12 years old and MTFU!
Your missing the point we don't care how it drives smile

Since when have supercars been about how they drive. Impact is all.
