We thought about an Evoque before purchasing our E Class, It just kept saying to me "can't afford a proper Range Rover".

It's a very nice piece of design but for me, more female orientated than male.
So why does your E Class not make you feel than you can't afford an S Class then?!
It does ha ha, The Evoque is a very nice looking car I'd just rather have a Range Rover Sport if we were to purchase an off roader.

The E Class was chosen because we've had Mercs before and got a good deal on it smile
And 'cos it was red?

Who Cares? This is Pistonheads isnt it?

Lets get back to performance orientated stuff or truly pretty cars instead of blingy mass produced pose mobiles.

Would it still be perceived as "girly" if LR had the balls to put the 5L SC lump in it?
Is a Fiat 500 girly if its an Abarth?

I know a couple of people who like them but didn't go through with the purchase of one because fear that it looks too girly.

Like a Range Rover, but more useless.
lol, absolutely.
IMO - Like a Freelander, but more useless.

Tried an Evoque for a week, liked it but they are so far from practical.
You are actually paying more money for the practicalities to be removed!

Yes. Every ML63 and X5M I've seen thus far has had women drivers - but (I don't know if this is perhaps why) they all had brown hair. One expects blonde). You do get some breaks from the stereotype here in Aus sometimes - I once saw 2 maybe early 20's chinese students here in Melbourne driving around in a bright green Ford FPV sedan rather than the far more common yaris with requisite fluffy headrest animals

Funny how you never see many Evoques fitted with winches, snorkels, expedition roofracks and spotlights.

LR used to man-up its new cars images in the Camel Trophy Not sure how an Evoque would have coped.

I think this story should be about how great the PR/marketing at Landrover are, as yes it is a girly car and is it over priced but it is selling like hot cakes,
do people car about off road practicalities when living in a city? no if it looks good has the right image then bang!

For a fully specc'd evoque is not far off the sport model whcih is the one I would have in black with black windows the same as everybody else in Surrey!!!

It's just too expensive for what it is. Hope it's more reliable than their other products. Sporty small SUVs are perfect for single people here in Texas, or couples without kids. But I didn't even consider one of these. A decently specked VW Tiguan ticks all the boxes at a much lower price.

They'd have to put a spare bottle of nail varnish in case the laydeez chipped their nails (matching the paint colour, dahling) or some hair product for the men (to make sure their hair look tousled, yet managed).

My wife's got one and she absolutely loves it - I won't really drive it though as it is a girls car. Mind you the residuals are fantastic - we're changing it in a few months (my choice not hers!) and will have lost about 8-10% in a year which for a new car is pretty good.

Only other thing to say is the A pillar is the size of a tree trunk and makes turning on certain junctions a nightmare....as her alloys are testament to....

Are they going to build a Freelander version using the tech from the Evoque?

Not sure why people think it means you cant afford a "Proper" Range Rover, it is a Proper Range Rover, it has a Range Rover badge, some people, specifically women in this case want a smaller version, a Sport or FFRR is enormous, lots went for the Sport because it was marginally smaller but now they are trading them in in their droves to buy an Evoque. The styling and buzz about it make it the car to have at the moment and I suspect that a lot of the owners wouldnt trade theirs in if offered a FFRR as a swap as they see it as a stuffy middle aged mans car and it is too big to park, trendy women will put up with a lot to be fashionable like we will put up with some right old st do we can have power, just different motivations.

I do like the look of the Evoque, LR pulled an utter blinder there, master stroke, genius to use the comparatively Hair Shirt Freelander as a basis for a really quite striking object of desire for the yummy mummy around town, 30 to 40 grand for a big hatchback, cant imagine they cost that much more to make than anything else.

They will sell every one they can make for the forseeable future, people will pay through the nose to own one, it is a want where most other cars are a necessity purchase.

It is most definitely a female oriented car, I see guys driving them and they dont look quite comfortable, not physically but they dont seem to have that louche slouched, arm outstretched, leaning a bit, bored with it all but very comfortable and rich thank yow very much demeanour that FFRR drivers have and Sport drivers try to emulate, there is an air of I am driving my wifes car but it is ok, they are really cool and hip and stuff.

not sure I woudl buy one, I dont want respect is due off the other perma tanned school run mummies, and 30 - 40k buys an awful lot of manky old german V8's, TVR's, LS400's and the other tragic old st I like.

I am glad the Evoque exists, it is British and desirable, ok its owned by the Indians who are doing very nicely with the profits (and perversley 1 Billion in aid from the UK, how does that work, they own our ass !) but its jobs, it is positive, it is support indistry, its exports etc.

From my recent experience the Ewok is rapidly moving up in at least one league table, the "driven without due regard to other road users" league unfortuantely. I'm not sure if the owners have read and believed too much marketing spiel, but they seem to be driven very aggressvely, and the drivers seem to be think they are sports cars, when in fact they are still large, heavy, SUV's with a CofG up in the clouds!

Seems 90% of people here think it's a girlie car (myself included) as generally a car of style over substance (albeit it may have more substance than other softroaders).
PHers seem to be more against it now that a few months ago when the Blog kicked off (about 1/2 thought it was a great car!). Luckily it's not every girlie's car otherwise my wife wouldn't have got herself an S4 :-)
