Didn't you already lose the fight to the 997.2TS? :-)
punch

Would have considered it had the 991 not been out, but having 2 997s seemed pointless.

I think the 991T will be phenomenal.

I would have all three, if I could afford it - instead I go these damn super cars days to drive and dribble. biggrin

Bad article btw - if I wanted the stats, I would go to Whatcar. PH needs to do a true comparison and Monkey (Chris Harris) like video.

Calling monkey please come in ....Hooning required shout
a comparison would be good just by someone less specific manufacturer focused than monkey wink , evo did one recently was interesting reading

You could pull the skirt in your sexy R8.
Then knock her up and use the 991 as the dull family wagon.
Finally visit the ring in your GTR to feel phenomenal.

Each has a role to play smile

Given the performance of the current Boxster and upcoming revised Cayman, the 991 is just too expensive. With decent options (esp. in convertible form) it is dangerously close to £100k and that is too much. A superb car it is no doubt but at those price levels it faces too much competition from more exotic/desirable but not necessarily better machinery. And that counts in this market.

Have you driven the base car with no options?

It's a delight and at a touch over £70k OTR terrific value IMO

This. For me personally...

GTR > R8 > 911 carrera
I love all three. I don;t care much for fractions of a second around a race track.

the R8 wins for me for one reason. Mid engine and V8/10 ok two reasons smile

GTR's are such epic bits of kit, not sure why anybody on this site would be down on them.

Why doesn't the R8 get the 450PS engine from the RS4? It's not as if the extra PS would change the Tax Bracket?

I, for one, would be pissed that a car lower in the range gets a better engine.

1550kgs v 1820kgs, you really notice the weight in the B8 RS4 performance wise, the engine feels blunter and needs full throttle up the top end of the rev range before it takes off, you cant hear much inside the RS4 either

That's all mass related though. Technically, it has the same displacement and architecture, so why not use the best engine at your disposal for the 'Halo' model R8?

Unless you're on a track I don't get the 'GTR will eat them' bit.
In the real world a GTR is (relative to the 991) even more exploitable than on a track.

Unless you were in a Turbo you really wouldn't see which way it went...

As previously mentioned the R8 is too close to the TT and has never looked a £100k car.

The 991/991 has not really changed shape in the last 14 yrs (since 996)and again to the unwise an new version does not stand out for me.

My choice would be the Gallardo even 2nd hand, if I was paying that much for a car I would want at least a couple of people to turn their heads and even maybe give me the 1 fingered wave!!

P.S. Are they bringing out a 991 RS with optional halford sticker pack??

Well you would because you'd be doing the same speed on a speed limited road...

Surely...

My point was that in the real world i.e. not on a track or on a Playstation, you're limited by uncertainty, not the ability of the car.

You don't know what's at the other end of a bend. Whether that be diesel, cyclists, horses, mud or as a friend of mine found out recently, a fallen tree.

Anyone know if they have fixed the carbon build up in the newer engine?

I don't know how they could without resorting to a mix of DFI and Port Injection.

So why are manufacturers continuing to build cars with just DFI - do they think customers won't notice?
