That is a very nice looking car. Along with the standard Cee'd, the Optima and the Sportage Kia are making some very nice looking cars, chuck in a 7 year warrenty and they are going to do very well in the next few years.

I'd consider an Optima myself if it didn't have to come with that crappy old Isuzu 1.7 diesel.

The problem is I looked up the prices and it was £20,000, more expensive than the equivalent Focus or even Golf. This hot version is likely to be just as ambitiously priced, and without the brand image and history (important in this sector) .
2 things, I stand to be corercted but I very much doubt like for like that the Kia was more expensive than a similar Focus or especially the Golf...
Also, brand image and history is is a moot point, this market sector covers nearly every demographic, those that think nothing betters a Golf and only a Golf will do because is Golf is best.... those looking for a bargain...those looking to be different and/or those just looking for a good VFM white good.
http://www.kia.co.uk/new-cars/range/mid-sized-cars...

The prices are on the right, the car I rented was a New cee'd '4' 1.6 CRDi Manual ISG - £20,695!

http://www.ford.co.uk/SBE/ConfigureYourVehicle/Con...

£17,145 for 1.6 Diesel Focus. Stick on all the options you want, still cheaper than the cee'd. Just as an example. Maybe the Kia is better, I was just shocked.
The '4' is the loaded version though, with leather, nav and a lot of extra stuff. With driver assistance pack, leather and nav, a Focus 1.6 Titanium X is £24,695. Admittedly you might get £6k discount so the transaction price is lower, but on list prices the Kia is £2k cheaper.
It is the Pro_Cee'd '4' that my friend has, and the list price was around the £20k mark. The going rate, however, was around the £17k mark (and the finance reflects this). That particular car was clearly a runout model, but it's still a hell of a lot of brand new car for £17k, especially given that warranty.

I have a friend who bought the previous generation of Pro_Cee'd last year, during a Kia finance promotion. He got a top-spec 1.6 diesel model with leather, nav and reversing camera, bluetooth, etc for £250 a month (PCP) with £1.5k down.
That sort of deal isn't anything special though, you can easily get a 2.0 TDI Golf or A3 for that kind of money. Goes back to my point that they need to be cheaper than the competition IMO.
I'd be very surprised if you can, Audi were offering the A1 sport 1.4 tsi (or the 1.6 diesel) for just shy of £280 with a similar deposit.

Chances of getting a 2.0 Golf or A3 for under £300 per month with a £1,500 deposit are slim.

The front looks like a cross between the new 3 series a lexus and with a hint of Scirocco R in the bumper not a bad looking car and looks a lot better than the Focus or Megane it will be up against.

If its a well rounded package and doesn't have buckets of grip id much rather have one than the aforementioned as it should be cheaper and more fun!

Everyone likes an underdog lets hope this proves to be one, getting bored of the obsession with bigger faster fatter grippier safer hot hatch's now theyre boring. I want this car to be scruffy.

Looks decent to me. I'd rather this over a warm Astra.

Correct, the "4 Spec" was only around for about 6 months before the model was replaced.

The general feedback from customers was that it was too expensive for a Kia. You've got to remember though, where were Kia 3-5 years ago? No where really. I've worked for Kia (sales) for just over two years and none of there models look the same from when I started. Pretty impresive to change the whole line up of vehicles in a reletivly short time frame. Sales are on the up nation and world wide.

And I can't wait to get my arse in one of these as a company car! driving

In this sector I think the Renaultsport Megane looks a bit bland, the Astra GTC too fat, the Scirocco and Golf both a bit dull, whilst the Focus and Giulietta look a bit gawky.

This new Kia looks ace though in my opinion - best looker in class to my eyes.

I find Kia's emergence as a credible mainstream brand hugely refreshing. Lets hopes this marks a good entry into the performance market.

Also nice to see they are not indulging in the BHP-arms-race that seem to be defining the maintstream hot hatches....

Right there with you on the Optima. Shame the engine is so wimpy. That thing with a grunty 6 cylinder diesel would make a great business-mobile.

I guess thats not really their part of the market though.

Admittedly it's a 2 year, 10k p.a. lease but I'm doing (slightly better than) that with a Mercedes E-Class.

Sorry but your wrong, it's easily doable. I found this without even trying - http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/car-leasing-... £1.5k deposit and £225 inc vat pcm. I've seen them for less before you just have to look arround.

Seems a very good deal, although isn't this just a standard lease deal? You don't have a predetermined cost-to-purchase figure for when the deal ends, and you don't receive any potential credit towards an upgrade deposit after the period.

Megane - agreed
Astra is WAY nicer - no comparison for the KIA, looks fanatastic from ALL angles
Golf - yep, well its dull and always has been
Scirocco - Dull? You're kidding right?
Focus - Its ok
Guilietta - Most stylish and desirable 5dr hatch I can ever remember!

Auto express are claiming a price of £22k for the GT. I might be out of touch with prices but that seems a lot.

The overall shape may be a tad generic but that is one good looking hatch.

Among a plethora of basic Euro-boxes, Kia seem to be doing pretty well but it remains to be seen if their attempt at a hot/warm hatch will tempt their target audience away from the established segment leaders. Fingers crossed for them, it would be nice to see it succeed.

I realise it's digging up an old thread, but headline rates on Contract Hire and Leasing are, in my experience, somewhat optimistic.

Of course, specific deals can, and do crop up from time to time, although quite often they're left up on CH&L long after the deal has expired as a way to draw in customers.

The other thing is that, of course, the rate is mileage specific, and often the very best deals are pre-registered cars, so there are no choices about the spec, it's a 'take it or leave it' thing.

Having said that, there were a bunch of pre-reg Skoda Superb SE 170 TDI's up at a cracking rate back in Sept/Oct 2012. I think at 10,000 miles per annum they were being punted out at around £220 + VAT or less per month (3 months deposit too). We got three of them, but at higher annual mileages, and thus cost. The only choice was colour.
