Because, having had it EU-approved(?), very few people would buy it because the no frills version is very basic, doesn't have an "aspirational image" and modifying isn't encouraged/easily-insurable anymore (hence unpopular)? As a fan of steel wheels and functional cars without baubles, I like it. I'd enjoy the non-aspirational image.
I'd really like to have one. Fit some additional lighting to the front, some suitably grippy, but good in all-weathers tyres and it would be a great back-roads, DIY-rally car, driven as the makers intended.
I wonder if there is a good bike carrying solution for it? Having said that, it would probably fit a couple of bikes in the back anyway.

This is just the Subaru car for the 86 / BRZ one make race series that was announced back in October isn't it? Here's the Toyota press release from the time:

Good choice of bike Dan.
Begged/borrowed that one but, yes, it's a beaut. A big old beast though and not an easy one to fit inside a car given the wheelbase and length of the forks so I was impressed that the GT86 swallowed it. I've seen folk fit bikes in the back of Caymans too, FWIW. Dan
