Which is the whole point.

If a Wikipedia doesn't see the Daily Mail as any sort of reliable news source, there is no hope for the filthy rag.
No, it shows the prejudices of the Wikipedia editors - The Independent is certainly not more reliable than the Daily Mail, but they don't have a prohibition on that.
I'm genuinely surprised that anyone would attempt to defend the Daily Mail.

I'm not sure where you see anyone defending the Daily Mail?

The Daily Mail may well be shoite but never underestimate its reach, it's probably the most read 'news' website going.
It is (by some margin) the most viewed/read news website in the world. That's a fact.

It's all those clickbait pictures of slebs in bikinis that does it.

In terms of what it sets out to do it is incredibly successful. I have a morbid curiosity with the site what with its mean stories about immigrants and its lurid tales of pointless 'celebrities.' It's like crack, I tells ya.

I think the guy who completed the run was on Radio 2 earlier...he's either got himself a good lawyer, or is leaving the country today as surely the BIB will want a word (even if it's just to be seen to have spoken with him) - at the worst, as others have said, they'll look to at least see if they can make an example of him.

I wonder if his Youtube clips will miraculously be taken down in short order?

Such sites can be. I for example scan The Sun website most days. I hate Rupert Murdoch, and as for the comments on some of their articles, they make me feel like putting a gun to my temple. I like the sun for the scandal and gossip stories, but I should really wean myself off it.

That said, the Wail is next level, it's full of hatred, and I really believe it can turn readers in to nasty minded people. I can't bring myself to even click on anything someone hyperlinks to their pages.

I quite enjoy it, along with the Telegraph. Surely those on here are not as prejudiced as those they slate as Mail readers?

I think he's just daft. I'm not a lawyer but he's brave to pin all his hopes on 'I did this over 6 months ago so there's nothing the police can do'. It's high profile enough now that they'll find something. For a start he was using a laser jammer and there's no 6 month limitation on perverting the course of justice.

proving a jammer was used is usually done by seizing the vehicle, no? Plenty of time there to remove the evidence

I can't imagine any scenario where the police walk away from this now. It's too public, and they will feel they need to send a clear message that this record is not up for grabs.

The chap who did it in the Porsche (missingK) was a proper gent about it. Total silence for years, then an anonymised post on PH, then total silence again until he passed away. No bragging. No attention seeking. No spoiling it for everyone else. The Porsche run was about the achievement and nothing more. The mystery adds to the excitement and the legend of that run will live on. Pure class.

And yet the exact same drive, motivated by fame and glory, has such a bad smell about it.

Two identical record attempts documented in the same thread. And yet they couldn't be more different in how I feel about them now. One, the stuff of legend. The other, well, I don't really care what happens.

Short of finding footage of him and the car in two places 3 hours and 300 miles apart, I'm not sure what evidence is going to be found?

If he's any sense the GPS data will be in the canal by now.

Hello everyone. I should I'd join the discussion, as I once planned something equally daft. What did 'Tommy' use for number plates? What were his 'parking sensors'? What does a Tetra detector tell you? What is its range? Below is what 'Tommy' has said on these topics so far:

The route passes through 15 police constabularies, a couple of Gatso Cams and countless average speed cameras...Having mentioned Alex Roy at the start...I don't need to go in to too much detail about how these obstacles were overcome...most emergency services use the Tetra digital network which can be legally detected. So I knew where our friends in uniform were going to be and I had 'Parking sensors' front and back...as for mitigating the average speed cameras.....Ill let you come to your own conclusion with that one.

You jest, there was an old guy in the village who ran exactly that vehicle so he could drive home from the pub.

Emergency services in the UK use a Tetra based radio system. You can legally buy detectors for it. They act a bit like a radar detector in that once they detect the Tetra signal they will bleep and give you a strength indicator. The idea being is that it can alert you to any police car etc. In reality, until you see the vehicle you dont know if its an ambulance, a fire engine or a police car. Its range depends on which antenna you use and where you are. Typically quoted range from the makers is around 500m to 1200m.

There are a couple of companies selling these, ranging from £225 upto £1000. However, there has been a move from Tetra to EE 4G network in the pipeline for a number of years and so how long these devices would be of any use is anyones guess.

Im guessing the "parking sensors" were laser jammers

Hope he’s got a good lawyer, no doubt the CPS/ police will pursue this. if he’s gone to the press himself surely he had the common sense to speak to a lawyer before telling the story?.
I have a friend who done a “getaway in Stockholm” type video and posted it on YouTube, he was hammered by the prosecution services but in the end he got away with it through ,ack of proof or something.
