RE: Audi RS Q3 - official

Here's hoping Land Rover take PH's hint and do a quick Evoque. They have the Jaguar parts bin to raid. a V8 Evoque would do nicely.
except the Evoque is a FWD platform, for transverse fit engines. The Freelander/(LR2)/Evoque platform is basically the 2006 Ford Mondeo 'EUCD' platform, with a Volvo S80 front end, hence the US market LR2 originally taking the Volvo straight six petrol engine fitted transversely, and hence why the 4.35m long Evoque is wider than a BMW 7-series.
As the Evoque is essentially a FWD transverse engine platform, like the Audi Q3, Land Rover is snookered in fitting more powerful engines.
The petrol engine in the Evoque is of course the Ford 2 litre EcoBoost, assembled in Ford Valencia, and fitted to the Ford Fusion and Ford Escape.
Ford has upped the torque rating of its own engine for its usage to 270 lb.ft, compared to 250 lb.ft in the Evoque and LR2.
To get a hi-power, quick Evoque, Land Rover will either have to wait for their own 4 cylnder engine programme, the supposed 'Hotfire', or see if Ford will let them have the ~300hp version of the 2 litre EcoBoost due for the next Focus RS. Problem is, the mythical 'Hotfire' is not due till 2014 at the earliest, and Ford may not allow third party usage of its top line EcoBoost engine.

Not too far from the truth, ask a dealer for differences between the models and see if they know.I have nothing more to contribute beyond whats already been said except, is 'quattro' really necessary in the lower grille? They've done it on the RS7 too and it's just so footballer... http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...

I quite like it.
Proportions are bang on, it's a great engine too.
Agreed, it doesn't look like an estate or 4x4 but it will still offer decent practicality compared to a hatchback. Its the optimum size.Proportions are bang on, it's a great engine too.
Only negative is the platform it sits on is quite old now, with its origins dating back to the 2003 A3 and Golf MK5. Doesn't put it in bad steed against the competition though given the Evoque uses Mondeo underpinnings and the X1 is an E90 3-series underneath.
I don't see the problem with this car. The RS3 has received negative comments about being too 'safe' and lacking character. A SUV version doesn't need to make excuses for handling imprecision, yet will probably tick every other box.
If it was a better looking vehicle, i'd almost be tempted to say it has the potential to be the perfect all-round car. I'm still waiting to see more details on the mini-Cayenne before deciding with my wallet though.

I have met mwstewart a few times and knowing him, this is more than likely a very subtle bilingual joke based on the spelling of the verb "to loose" as in to release - from the Germanic root that gives them "los", normally used when opening fire on something. A commentary on Audi wilfully broadening their horizons and destroying their previous image, no doubt.I like the look of it...wish it had one more tailpipe as per usual RS models. We have an X5 that we do not use much because it is too big and cumbersome to take everywhere. But the wife likes the "high up" driving position and the build quality and I hate the weight of the thing. I don't do many miles a year, so when I am driving I want to enjoy the experience. Models like this (hopefully they make an RSQ5) provide choice and that can only be a good thing.
In reply to Hondansx, You may not see a problem with it, but when i voted, the average was 4.62, which speaks volumes (ok, only from those who deigned to vote...)
Personally, I can see both sisdes of the coin; I wouldn't 'need' one, or do I particularly 'want' one, but it will no doubt fit some peoples criteria.
However, I'm one of those people that would rather buy a used RS4 Avant, than a new one of these......

Is that like the grammatical joke, regarding;
the difference between "knowing your st" and "knowing your'e st"????

One would imagine this isn't being made for the UK market.
There isn't really a need or a want for something like this in the UK, but overseas I can certainly see the appeal.
I think they'll sell loads of them, many of which will be parked daily right outside my child's school gates. There isn't really a need or a want for something like this in the UK, but overseas I can certainly see the appeal.
