My old Saab 9000 went quite well

With a huge vgt Holset strapped to it at 1.7 bar but it admitted defeat at 2 bar and split a piston in half

Pretty hopeless until 3rd gear and in a straight line where it was hysterical all the way to 160mph .
Crazy and brilliant in equally biblical measures. thumbup

I used to have a ratty Mk3 VW Polo GT Coupe, full G40 running gear, Schrick cam, Eaton M45 supercharger, etc. The right side of 160bhp in an 800kg car. It eventually died blowing the doors off a Mk5 Golf R32, supercharger belt snapped and sucked itself into the timing belt... frown

My old Golf VR6 had a few tweaks and was completely stripped out for drag racing. Looked like a fairly standard Mk3 Golf, clean-ish but rusty arches and badged up as a CL, even had CL rear lights, trims etc. That surprised a few people.

That big turbo Saab is fantastic!

In a couple of years when I have the money and time for it, I am going to marry a 109" Land Rover to a Jaguar J60 engine biggrin

A few years after that, if I can find one, I am going to stick a Climax FWMV in an Austin A35...

I love this Volvo!

I used to have a V70 T5 & they are quite a sleeper as standard since most people expect them to be slow boring family estates, whereas they are quick off the line & suprisingly nimble

I love this thing, for the noise alone.

Stock b234 motor with a Holset he531 vgt blower from a diesel dodge ram , 89lb compressor with an a/r of over 2.0 with the vane wife open so very low back pressure at high boost . Siemens 870cc injectors and quaife atb in the box . 540hp is usually the limit for stock pistons but the vgt allowed a bit more due to better flow and lower egt

Ran 13.2 at 122mph at pod .

Perhaps this? My new transport- Anyone not into cars wouldn't realise there's a 4.0 v8 putting out nearly 300bhp, and weighs about the same as an e90 m3...light by modern standards for a big estate.

0-60 between 6 and 7, topspeed (unlimited) around 160. Fast enough to give most modern hot hatches and tdi's a fright.

Most just think its some antiquated dog transporter, might put a 518i badge on the back.

If you believe everything you watch on Top Gear you'd think such a car was undriveable.. and indeed if you slam your foot to the floor in first or second, you got no traction at all. But if you don't do full-bore launches and then get more progressive once you got into 3rd and beyond the performance of the thing was staggering.. it honestly felt as quick as any of the real supercars I'd ever driven, or maybe it was just the shock of going that fast in a car I traditionally associate with half that power.

It was utterly fantastic fun. But very thirsty. And fairly "Q" until you opened the taps as it did make a fair amount of noise!
Didn't happen to be around Southam did it? I remember a Corrado leaving me in its dust when I had a A4 Audi S-Line wink Man that thing was unbelieveably fast
