What does FSI mean
Discussion
Going to look at and hopefully buy a new car tomorrow
An Audi exactly the same as mine now only it has less miles and more power is two years younger and has lovely leather which mine does not
the engine is an FSI
but I haven;t a clue what that means
A guy in work thinks it has something to do with the injectors and making it more economical as a 1.6
anyone gone better idea?

Fuel stratified injection, I believe.
Basically, it's direct injection petrol so that fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, leading to greater efficiency.

But the 1.6 doesn't have a turbo.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_fuel_stratified...

FSI stands for Fuel Stratified Injection, this is a normally aspirated petrol direct injection system where the petrol is directly injected in to the cylinders on the induction and compresion phase of a 4 stroke engine, resulting in fuel savings and better engine efficiency.
And Carbon Coking... Audi is now using a mix of DFI and indirect (port injection).

That's more of an emissions thing as DI is good for some things but worse for others (or something like that), other than on PH I've never heard of coking being an issue and working in the industry you'd think I would have if it was as big a deal as PH makes out?Audi is now using a mix of DFI and indirect (port injection).

Are you sure you know what you're on about CJP? I specifically remember seeing a racing documentary where the tech bloke (who runs a VAG car himself) specifically thanks the lord himself for direct port injection....according to Parkers
the car I have a 1.4 SE gets 47mpg, which is not far off what i get 42-45mpg
i am buying the same car only in a 1.6 FSI sport with leather and more kit
Parkers is saying it will give 48mpg
if i get anything over 40 it's what i consider good
is it true as it's another 200cc
