Chris Harris video: R8 V10 vs 911 Turbo S vs GT-R

Chris returns from a break with an absolute belter of a video - enjoy!

Much of the discussion on the back of this video will doubtless centre around the legitimacy of inserting a modified GT-R into the test.

Since the car first arrived in the UK at the beginning of 2008 it has knee-capped almost anything it came across, regardless of price. So I thought this time we'd allow a little 'extras' spend on a new GT-R to bring it a little closer to its competition in terms of price.

Even if you add the £14,895 engine mods and the £3,594 chassis changes Litchfield adds to a new £76,610 GT-R, it is still comfortably the cheapest car in the test.

Since I shot this video, Porsche has announced a new 991 Turbo and Turbo S, but the outgoing car remains one of the fastest ways of covering ground. If you were ever nasty enough to want to unnerve a passenger, one of these might be the machine of choice. I've never really gelled with this PDK version, but when it arrived in a dark, flat green, it looked quite lovely.

The R8 is all bling on the outside but its credentials are full of substance. Now with 550hp and the only car here not relying on forced induction it also has a dual-clutch gearbox to replace that rubbish R Tronic thing in the previous generation car. As a manual it would be lighter and more involving, but in this company it needs the auto 'box.

We visited Anglesey, some roads and a runway to learn more about them.

Enjoy the vid.

Already posted this wink

Thought it was another great vid - thought it said it all when Chris got behind the wheel of the GTR on the track.. the commentary dried up, his eyes went like saucers - you know it's rapid when it stops him from giving the running commentary on how well the car goes!

Great stuff smile Looking forward to the rest of this series.

All three are stunning, the R8 engine sounds fantastic, the GTR goes like a bd, the Porsche (which I love) was a little disappointing in this company (sound) but amazing none the less.

Now where is that F-type video Chris?

Chris's face looked like he was in a horror movie driving the Nissan.

Well I would have any of the three....
but Chris forgot one key thing - by virtue of the spacious back seats the 911 and GTR can be justified as family cars to the wife!

Great vid.

Love the super slow mo of the cars launching. You can really see how the launch control is trying to reduce the wheels spinning especially on the R8 and how far the GT-R squats down on launch.

+1! Although I remember back then I was told I will never make any money fooling around with computers :P

Great video and personally if I have the dough I'd go for the R8 as the daily runner...

I remember saying when Chris did the GT2 RS vs Panigale that modern turbo Porsche's have a rubbish exhaust note. Unfortunate to see they're continuing with this trend. Why though? Is it to keep in with strict exhaust emissions or something? The standard Nissan GTR isn't much better either.
Kudos to the Audi for making awesome noises and not going turbo!

Turbo's always make cars sound 'barpy' and I for one hate it.
