Probably as dull as cars can get, but I reckon as a family bus you couldn't go far wrong with this.

I borrowed one of these from a colleague when working in Barcelona, more than a few years ago. The only reason I remember it at all is that it was so unremarkable to be memorable.

Even rubbish cars have "something about them". This thing had nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I see the example here has covered 57,000 miles. I did about 570 miles in the one I had, and wanted to kill myself! laugh

The photo with the keys and the door open? Is that floor pan rust?

Looks like sound deadening material?

I zoomed in on that and decided sound deadening - not a place they should rust.

I love it but it would just take budget out of my 106 XSi rebuild frown

Absolutely brilliant write-up!

Power: not much
The 106 has no power steering she was 90 and could steer it (no wimps apply)
No electric windows you have use a bit of manual labour
No electric mirrors no central locking (you use the shiny key thing)
No rear wash wipe no cigarette lighter (so no sat nav buy a map only a £5 )
No air bags no air con (open the window you can reach both from the drivers seat)

Bought a car last week, won't do a readers thread not worth it. Basically cheap motoring.

Renault Megane 1.5 dci 100bhp, no history bought off a scrappie and body work was covered in crap. Back windows don't work.

Photo from advert, you can't see the plethera of cobwebs and crap on paintwork.

I has leather, 12 months mot, good stereo and stops and goes and does 55mpg all day and 30 quid tax, hpi clear and 91k miles.

So far bought a tuning box for 30 quid, really makes a different, is actually quite fun. Two times car wash, oil, filters changed. Tried to fix back broken window. then realised it looks like someone has already tied.

So far engine sounds like a bag of st but is running, lumpy and clunky, slight smell of weed and green tar covered windows(bit you can;t see) but cheap motoring.

Car price 425
Train -25
Full service - 22 (had oil already)
Tuning box off ebay - 30

500 quid for running car..

That doesn't sound cheap for an iffy Renault

I was going to sell a mate's 2.4 JTD Alfa 156 - high miles, due a cam belt etc and saw that similar cars were selling for sub £150 on ebay so I'm banger racing it.

Shame really it's a good car - he did 20k in in last year without issue.

That seems a bit expensive, however it lasts the 12 months might well turn out to be a bargainsmile

depends how define cheap, my last car cost 425 quid, cost 40 per week in fuel and 300 quid tax bracket. Great car but 22mpg is not great. The megane is cheap we are talking 500 qiud not 2k. People spend that just to get a car through an mot.

Valuing a car in the hundreds is always going to be a finger in't air exercise - to replace the tyres could cost more than you pay for the car - to put things into perspective I'm currently sat next to some professional valuers talking about £80k secondhand Mercs and discussing how a plus pack can add £10k!

Ran a Volvo S60 2.4T for over a year like that. Didn't feel any different after a year as I drove it with mechanical sympathy so only accidentally got a clonk once a month if that. smile

Same for a Golf Cabriolet but for nearly 3 years. biggrin

It would still annoy me as I've driven cars with more mileage and less faults. But if it keeps going then it's cheap enough.

I bet if you had the ability to fit it yourself you could have the car and a box from a scrapper £500

I had a similar Accord Coupe V6 - great car for what it was - and the gearbox was a bit iffy sometimes. I took it as just being 'character' rather than a specific fault, however. Could do a lot worse for £595.

Some say it can be fixed by replacing the gearbox oil. It is annoying but not very annoying considering the cost and the vehicle itself - most S60 2.4Ts were over £1500 at the time.

Picked up £160 worth of large, leathery rover barge last week. Stuck it through an mot and failed on a couple bits. So it'll be getting new shocks at the end of the month, some polish to clear up the headlights and s clip on a steering rack gaiter and I'll be running around in quite possibly the polar opposite car to my Nissan hehe
