I almost hate to say this but the owner of the 75 (my new boss) said that he will give me the car... RESULT!
Third car in a row I've had for free, haha.

I do like a Leg-end. Had a previous generation 2.7 V6, and it was a great car.

For a bag of sand, this one looks cracking.

Woooo Rover 75s!

These really are a bargain at the moment - and have been for some time!

I’m on my 5th one at the moment (well 4th and 5th ‘cause I’ve got two). The diesels are great for longevity but if there seems to be a fair bit of vibration in the cabin this is easily sorted with new engine mounts which are not expensive and cheap to fit, too.

I’ve got a diesel and a V6 both autos at the moment, and absolutely love smoking around in them.

Both cost me less than £500, both have only ever failed MOTs on bulbs. Fantastic cars.

Ever had a 1.8T?

The decent looking £500 ones don't hang about. Ideally I'd want a tourer for the practicality but prefer the saloon body style loads more

Lack of Isofix not a problem if you have child seats that are secured by the main seat belts.

Nice to see the sudden outbreak of love for the Rover 75 - had mine nearly six years and by a mile the best car I've ever had. I know someone who picked up a fully loaded diesel recently for £200, but prices are starting to rise, seems they are finally getting the recognition they always deserved.

Parts has never been an issue, and there are some cracking owners' clubs for technical support.

That's sensational, you've all got some unbelievable deals on those Rovers.

What a lot of metal for the money.

I've always liked the 75. The traditional interior does it for me. Very classy especially for a normal car that's basically a Honda Accord isn't it?

That's the preceding model, the Rover 600. The 75 (as far as I know) is all Rover, but Rover with BMW money at the time.

Ahh, well even so, it is different to the other affordable saloon cars eg 3 series, Mondeo, Vectra, Accord. smile

the rumour mill always said it was based on a 5 series platform which they re-engineered for FWD use and then re-re-engineered it back to rwd for the V8.

either way, for a cheap mile muncher with the BMW 2.0 diesel it takes some some beating

There's a fair bit of actual BMW in there too!

The diesel lump, electrics, rear suspension setup are all BMW. It's surprisingly like a 5 series to drive, but more waftier.

Never had a 1.8t, I did have a disastrous 1.8 n/a though. I probably wouldn't for for a 1.8 in any guise again. The V6s are hardy and the diesel as close to unburstable as possible. My previous diesel was on 302,000 before I got rid.

What sort of mpg are you getting on the motorway with the auto V6?

I was initially looking for a 75 but also considering other options such as the s60 and the hydro syspension and laminate windows of the mk2 C5 Exclusive.

My V6 is getting 35mpg at the moment. This is calculated brim to brim, BUT it's a high days and dry days car so doesn't see much urban work at all. I reckon you could easily get it to mid 20s.

Funnily enough, the C5 exclusive is probably what i'll look at to replace when there are no more rovers. Trouble is they're all a bit diesely!

I used to average 30 in my 2.5 v6 auto, mostly motorway with 3 passengers and a load of karting kits. city driving would see this fall through the floor i suspect.

My Clio 172 does 38mpg calculated over 80 miles of A/motorway with about 3 miles of urban driving at either end. That's on super dupper unleaded so if yours is on normal petrol it doesn't sound so bad for an auto V6. I'm also well versed in expensive or tricky DIY cambelts due to the F4R in the clio

There's an auto 2.2 HDi C5 on 70k odd miles £300 over thread budget at a traders nearby which looks tempting.

I've always admired the Rover 75, they weren't very expensive new but I see hundreds over the course of week commuting so they must be a pretty well built considering they went out of production 12 years ago.

The 75 is a bit like Aldi, they took the interior look and feel of Bentley and Jaguar. The wood trim, the dash layout, the dials, piped seats etc and made them the similar for about a 50p. Is it a Jag or Bentley? No, but it does the same thing and looks decent.

I've seen a few ads recently that say you have to bring your own wheels. I think it might be an increasing trend

It's also one of the things that makes me automatically decline a car
