If you really want something like that, look out for a Suzuki Cappuccino - Driven gingerly, they can easily achieve 50+ mpg's, but handle great and a pack a surprisingly decent punch when worked..
Most have disolved by now though..
The Insight can be turned in to a quick car, just get in touch with peterperkins. Economy when 'upgraded' is staggering. Most have disolved by now though..

Yeah, it is quite appealing. I keep looking at smart roadster-coupe's for the same sort of reason, but since some utter bd smashed up the bonnet of my little Z to the point where it's now just utterly worthless (if perfectly road worthy) I'm too broke to be looking at new metal at the moment... not that that stops me, of course.

You know that "!=" means "is not equal to"?
Oops. No. Do now though. For those with 25 minutes to spare my 134.9 mpg journey to work in my modified Insight Mk1 shows how to squeeze insane mpg out of the car using good technique, manual ima control and a bigger battery pack.

Black ones are pretty scarce, led to believe there's only 2 or 3 in the country.

I had one of these and PeterPerkins helped me out with a charger and a few other items.
Its a totally different kind of fun to hypermile in these. Something you can do in everyday traffic to get rid of the boredom and make the commute fun, which you cant do in moving traffic in other cars.
My car had a few mods like the external battery charger (cycled the batteries), ability to turn the IMA off, recharge as if the brakes were on and smoothing out the throttle to stop minor jerks closing off the EGR valve. I averaged about 70mpg commuting, 90mpg on long journeys and once got 126mpg over 32 miles slipstreaming a truck in them middle of the night.
Interesting fact, the car is in fact LIMITED to 112mph! At that speed the IMA stops assisting you so you can only rely on the engine. I can imagine 120mph would be possible with IMA assist. I once stuck on the bumper of an Impreza Turbo with the Japanese 112mph limiter still activated. The guy couldnt believe it!
Its pretty nippy for what it is and the low grip can mean plenty of fun too.
