Some cars I like it like the Mclaren SLR, yet others it seems too harsh - there was a TG with a supercharged monaro a while ago it sounded awful imo.

Ive heard quite a few and only experienced it in our Cooper S and on balance i loved it. Its so mechanical a sound, affected by you the driver and i love it for that. I like the sound of straight cut gears, i like the muted sound of our Alfa V6 and all the V6 and I6 ive owned.

For me the supercharger sound just magnifies the experience of driving further.

Never had or driven one but the sound is superb just gives an extra dimension to the normal sounds of an engine.

Does it get tiresome on motorway / dual carriageway stints?

Not a fan of the whine either, find it a bit annoying.

Must admit I love the supercharged Minis.

New F-Type sounds well. Right balance of exhaust and whine.

Pity it's so overpriced. I would have traded the Z4 for one.

Very much car dependent for me. Too much is the banshee scream that is an Ariel Atom on full chat, feels like it's drilling into your head. It does up the experience though and what a car. Badly want one.

Nope, it only whines under power.
I suspect it would get tiresome if you had a low power revvy car.

They are very nice on a large bellowing V8 where it provides a lovely contrast, but when connected to something like an inline-4 all you can hear is the supercharger and it's a bit too much. I've seen supercharged Civics that just sound like hyped up electric cars on full chat

I don't even like that Cobra Mustang on full chat, sorry. It would actually stop me evening owning it, it's that bad. Just not a pleasant sound (IMHO).

My aural pleasures are coming from high revving NA engines (especially bike engines, or V8/V10/V12). Having said that, great engines like the Merlin engine sound nice, but you can't hear that "gearbox whine" noise. Love the noises from "turbo nutter" cars like the QR Quattro rally car car too.

Well done Sir. I was just about to post this exact clip.
That is nasty. It just sounds like something rubbing on one of his tyres.

I quite like the sound if it - the first one I had was a lancia volumex in 1988 then more recently a Jcw S the sound adds some character to the cars.

I love supercharge whine, I've had two s/c cooper s's with smaller pulleys and bits and pieces and always sounded great inside, I lent my car to a mate once whilst I was out for a few pints, walking home after a few I hear this almighty whine and banging and I was surprised to see my car fly by me, sounded even better from the outside biggrin

I can now add my wife to the list of supercharger converts smile She's currently on the lookout for a CTR, but after a blast in the 2-11 just now she's added the MINI Cooper S to the list smile

I'll come back and report back after a couple of weeks ownership with my new Supercharged VXR8 (when I get the bloody thing!).

Doubt you'll hear the whine over the open headers
