That makes sense I tried to see if I could find a sold at auction price but nothing came up. That must be worth a hell of a lot now.
There's been very very few " ** 1" plates ever offerd at any DVLA auctions,most have been " 1 ** " So yes an old original number.
Indeed, virtually all possible 2 letter - forward combinations were issued, at least at number 1 (some were not 'finished' when suffix plates were introduced). I am only aware of two exceptions - BF and WC. OL 1 was issued by Birmingham in 1923.

KJB 1 also on an FFRR on the M1 at Northampton this morning.
I'm sure a greater percentage of Range Rovers have personal plates than any other car!
