If you look at the 1st year depreciation on a 135i, it'd cover for a full engine rebuild on the 911
Hartech charge £6-7K for that. Would you kindly point me in the direction of 1 year M135i for around £20k, as they were £26k/£27k after discount, thanks a lot.And in 2 years time they'll be £18-19k retail.
The 997 will still be the same price. Much cheaper in reality even if the engine blows up.
And back to basics in standard guise? Tell me what it lacks that is typically standard on a £30k German car?
And the debate was not about basic specs only so far as I can tell.
I love the way 30 grand is talked about as thou its loose change and BMW are practically giving them away.
Best to wait a couple of years and get a nice one owner one for half that or not much more, then it becomes a bargain, as it is, if I had 30 grand I wouldnt be looking at hatchbacks, however fast.
If BMW could have only made it nice looking, or at least no uglier than the first 1 series which in three door form was quite handsome, as a coupe it looked like a hat on wheels as it was too short for that roofline (the 1 M gets away with it due to the flared arches and big wheels) and a neighbour has a black convertible, which looks like a pram.

So if everyone waited, how would there be any available used in a couple of years ? The new vs used debate has been done to death, it's a personal choice and buying second hand does not always yield the savings that one might hope, when all parameters are taken into account.Best to wait a couple of years and get a nice one owner one for half that or not much more, then it becomes a bargain, as it is, if I had 30 grand I wouldnt be looking at hatchbacks, however fast.
At £26.5K with all the kit one may need, they're a bargain IMO.

I do think BMW are missing a trick completely by not making a proper 2+2 sports car. I know they dont really have a tradition of doing so, but the way they are filling in every possible niche imaginable (4 door coupe slopy-backed GT 4x4 estates) but completely ignoring the one niche i'm actually interested in! Funny post Jacko! Bit you could argue that a 350z looks like a bloated sports car with an enormous bum....
I'm hanging on a bit. It made sense to buy our camper new (they are near depreciation proof) but the BM, listing at £39k with options, was picked up two years old and 16k miles from a main dealer for £21k. And a decent price for the Ashtray in px (which the sales guy crashed on the drive back...!). There's something about paying more than that for a car listing at much less that causes me mental anguish.
With the deals being had new, I suspect depreciation will be fairly brutal.
Cmoose; you prance around this forum like some self professed car legend, you make the most hilariously pompous comments; do you not expect a little rib ticking?
As for bullying and anonymity, this is the internet. If you think that a little pi55 taking is bullying, you need help. And I'm about as anonymous to anyone with half an IT brain as Beyoncé.

Eh cmoose. Thanks for the PM. Huge apologies for doubting you. You clearly have driven these cars, and clearly I was right to start with saying that you're very lucky !
I do still think that you should sometimes be more humble when confronted with other people's views. Don't take this as an attack or anything nasty though.
