Really good day so far for progress.

Final dry run of the upper chassis install, we may even get the final install done tonight, all depends once we've satisfied ourselves we are ready for it, how tired everyone is & how late it is. No point rushing and making a mistake at this stage.

Christ, you only get a sense of how massive it is** when people are standing next to it.

  • insert innuendo gag here.

Lovely pictures INSIGHT but wouldn't a couple of fag ends on the floor, an envelope with some scribbled calculations by the fin and a half drunk cup of tea in the cockpit look a little more, well, British? wink
Don't think we can claim the plucky underdog tag this time out.

The biggest thing that startles me is how it can be so massive yet so intricate at the same time.

Yup. Just like the airplanes we all fly in, and never really think about the structure. I worked in the industry for 50 years, wandering into the workshop, and looking at one 'naked', still used to blow me away. Just bloody awesome.

The level of engineering in this is just incredible. Also, the step change from Thrust SSC is something else. I sure Thrust SSC was cutting edge at the time, bit in terms of things like dash board layout, instrumentation, suspension design, it didn't seem to being hugely different from Thrust 2.

Bloodhound just seems to be completely on another level.

The only concern I have, is will it kill of the Land Speed Record completely. A Land Speed Record is an enormous undertaking, and requires huge amounts of money. But, Bloodhound has moved the game on so far in terms of design and technology, that if it is successful (and I truly hope it is) I don't see how anybody is going to compete against it.

That sort of proves my point. Bloodhound has had thousands and thousands of hours of virtual development. The Americans have taken the wings off a plane and crossed their fingers.

It was commented previously that it was hoped that Bloodhound SSC runs and breaks the record (safely) sooner rather than later to put the competitors to bed.

I don't think anyone else is even close. Eagle was a rival for breaking the Mach 1 barrier, and didn't achieve that, never mind 1,000 mph.

A few more photos from the last, very productive, couple of days.

Bacon hatch

Carbon SLS (3d printed) aux inlet duct.

Moving the car from the surface plate onto the floor.

Car on the stands, wheels on, ready to put on it's wheels.

Strain gauge calibration of the fwd structure.

Underside of the rear chassis.

Rupert, Dave & Chris

Ti monocoque floor ready to be installed.

Ti monocoque floor being installed.

Underside of the car

......and again

The inevitable "oh st" moment, when you need to check something that's inside the chassis, behind a hatch, in the HTP tank bay, in I go!!!

Oh it's so funny to prod at me when I'm in there too.....

We'll, somebody had the press the brake pedal whilst the wheel nuts were torqued up!!! (That's my excuse anyway)

Is there any more 'stuff' to add, or are you going to balance it out with some added mass ?

We really don't foresee the need.
