Multi rocket car.. this should give some idea's:

Apart from nowhere to put the fuel (though a landspeed record car doesn't need huge fuel tanks anyway) and that keel at the top which would presumably cause instability in crosswinds. How poor a design would that be?
Nope, no need for much fuel.......around 1300litres per run that's all.
A 4 foot x 4 foot x 4 foot tank would hold about 2,000 litres so that's plenty, you could free up most of that space by leaving the dog behind.

You haven’t watched the latest video then. I wonder if Ron Ayers will go to South Africa for the 800mph attempt?
Knowing Ron pretty well (I picked him up from the airport after his return from SA), he will be out there for future runs, if he is able. He is a sprightly 87 year old, so I certainly wouldn’t bet against him being there.

The dog is a very clever moving ballast system to balance the car as the fuel is used up.

Also smart to have some rockets pointed up and some down to trim the car and keep it level.

@Mules - I guess it's gonna be a decent Christmas party in the short term - but will the team (maybe it's you, I dunno) keep going with regular updates on FB/twitter etc. I enjoy all the updates - not just the ones since you've been in SA. And someone's got to police Franklin, too.

Wouldn't that space be reserved for the Jag V8 that drives the fuel pumps?

I too want to see more updates....especially for data results and views of wear and tear on the car. I dont think you have to worry about FR on FB anymore....pretty sure the sherriff kicked him out of town after his last expletive filled, name calling tirade.....It was really off the rails.

Electric motor now, I think? More compact, more flexible packaging, more controllable, fewer problems with liquids etc.

Part of the low speed cross wind instability is due to the static margin being higher than planned as the rocket & associated support systems are not in the car, fitting these will reduced the static margin, thereby reduce the cars tendency to "weathercock"

Surely they would he added some ballast to compensate for the missing rocket ?

They fitted another fuel tank for the EJ200. I think that was because so they wouldn’t have to refuel the car on track, not because of stability reasons.

Yes I gave Franklin another final warning and then the boot. More than happy to see lively debate (as we tend to get here) over the various ways of addressing engineering problems, but he couldn't keep it civil.

Yes we'll keep the updates going. Have a few more films to finish off and then we can start looking a the data....

@Jules - thanks for the latest update on the LSR site. https://www.bloodhoundlsr.com/bloodhound-lsr-back-...
May I ask what the biggest deviation from the models was and what the lessons learnt from those deviations were?

Jules, when the car arrives back home, why not put on a big public celebration, and invite the media along?

Rocket experts on how they'll help blast Bloodhound into the record books

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhgB9Dg3OuA

Rocket engineers from Nammo joined the Bloodhound team in South Africa during the high speed testing. Here they explain how the monopropellant rocket will be developed to help blast Bloodhound LSR into the record books in 2021.

60kN thrust. I think that is about half what they were hoping to get from the old falcon project rocket. I can see this getting the land speed record, but I don't see it being to 1000 mph in this form. Does not look like there is room for a cluster of them. I rather suspect the 1000mph target may be quietly dropped after they get the record. Unless they can acquire some serious funding that is.

I think I read previously that 60kn is the first incarnation and there's more available for the 1000 target.
Or to quote Andy back in 1997, "Our aim is to make a safe car go fast, not the other way round"

ETA - google tells me that Richard Noble said it, not Andy, Although I am sure I heard Andy say it in an interview.

We are. All the members of the Supporters' Club have been invited. Tickets selling very well.
