Good to see so many barges and mini barges on there this year!

I did own a £799 a8 4.2 for a few months this year, quick, and nice enough to drive, but it had no character compared to my old merc. Maybe I'll try a w126 S this year.
2 months, 1,500 miles, 2 front tyres and one replacement thermostat it's still going strong! Some minor bodgery required to fix the passenger side door mirror in one place though. It's longest journey in my hands so far was the almost 500 miles back from Scotland, though I am seriously considering taking it to France for New Year. The trouble is our 'proper' car is a MB C250 CDI which will average 48mpg on the autoroute. Even with its new thermostat, and cruise controlled to 80, I'm not sure the A8 will manage half that :-)

I concur with this statement / sentiment!

Any chance of a top 10 SOAT (shed of all time) ?

Would have to be taken in context at the time of course - though I wander how many cars that were SOTW a few years ago would not be able to be gotten for shed money today!

Keep up the good work. I love SOTW and look forward to it every week like a big kid waiting for my weekly comic book.

As expat readers all over will testify, there is nowhere in the world you can interesting good used cars cheaper than the UK.

Something very appealing about the SOTY winner. An old school Audi from the days when Audi was the thinking mans german car, long before BMW man switched to driving white S line Audi A4/A5 TDIs, which at the moment are just about my most hated loathsome vehicle on the roads thanks to super aggressive driving Audi man!

Me, I'd probably take the A8 however, always thought the original A8 was sheer understated class.

Strange that we have such a good choice of interesting used cars at low prices when new car prices in the UK are so much higher than most places!
I don't normally tend to like Japanese cars but that Lexus Soarer would make a great wafter.

frown Shocked and saddened that the big Saab 9-5 Aero didn't make into the top 10, perhaps it was the mileage but hey ho.

Anyway, happily went and purchased in its first 600 miles it hasn't been trouble free but i've been very, very happy with it!
SOTY for me anyway smile

Think I bought the shed of the year; a mint '99 one-owner, 42k mile Honda Prelude 2.2VTi with long MOT and tax for £800... Was going to submit the ad for SOTW but went straight up the road to buy it instead.

Love SOTW. It inspired me to buy my Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon.
Needed a huge car as the missus and I have a nipper on the way and we have 3 dogs already!
Me being a petrol head wanted a great spec and great pace. Budget was tiny as funds went on other stuff and we didn't want finance.
Now we own a 53 plate black 9-5 Aero estate. Its got everything on it including a heated rear seat!! Its a bit leggy but for 1100 quid, you can't go wrong!
Its a fab Q car as most people dont know how fast it is. Until I'm disappearing in the distance!

Another good year of Shedding, but it would remiss of me not to point out that the Fiat Coupe featured was a 16V and hence the 4-cyl model.

Nice sounding for a four but not quite as sonorous as the 5-cyl, and you can knock a second or so off that 0-60 and a good 10 mph off the top end quoted as well.

Another terrific year of SOTW, I particularly liked the Fiat Coupe Turbo and the x19
What ?...no mention for the loathed by most Cinquecento.

Which if the above is correct would also bring Fiat into the thrice shedded of 2013....confused

ETA.the X1-9 by the looks of it was 2012 so ignore the last comment.

What's with my quoting.......rolleyes

It's odd to omit the model year when writing about shed-priced vehicles.

I love shed...

I bought 3 weeks ago this 728 BMW.... from a well known 'noreservecar' ebayer.... I paid £1200, so just slightly over the grand limit... but comes with 123k miles, FSH and everything works as it should... i mean EVERYTHING... computers, elec windows, mirrors, seats, boot release etc etc etc.. .MOT to end August 14...

It's the best bargain shed I've ever had... just brilliant value.... I chuckle at my colleague who just shelled out £7k for a ropey 90k mile Audi A4 diesel estate (07 plate).....

There are some real bargains if you search well... my previous to this BMW was a Merc E240 estate... which I paid £1600 for and have run for 2 years and 40,000 miles... sum cost to own has been regular servicing, tyres and brake pads/discs... that's it... its on ebay now and I'll probably see at least a grand back for it... so my new shed has cost me net £200!

Can't argue with the top 3 (but as someone who's run a 4.2 A8 for the last 14 years, I might put them in a different order biggrin)

Sheds don't come much better than that 728i ^. If you ask me the e38 is one of the best looking cars of all time. Would love a 750 in 'Bond' spec.

Fantastic! It's a comfy car I'll give it that.

Number two was quite fittingly described (as No.2s). If that had 'no rust' then I will eat my Arai! What do yo uthink is lurking under the nasty GRP sill extnetions? If theyre original then I will eat my (hard) hat, too.
