It will take a while with that bodykit!

I am convinced it is an awesome car to drive, (all reviews of it have been consistent) I just could not live with the way it looks...

Cool and all, but I'd get the IX MR, last of the "proper" Evo's, if I was to keep it for a long time. Don't judge me, it's just an opinion.
Evo 9 GT is supposed to be quite special too:

"RS – "rally sport", revised 5-speed, aluminium roof, gauge pack, minimal interior, LSD and a titanium-magnesium turbine, left-hand drive option available.

GT – revised 5-speed, this is basically the RS mechanically, but with some of the GSR's features (mainly interior pieces)."

You do often get comments from folks stating how the 4x4 mad Jap saloon does nothing for them. I would suggest that most of them probably have not actually driven one of these machines flat out on a killer B road. The adrenalin rush is awesome. Nothing can keep up. Thats the whole point of cars like the Evo and thats just when the road is dry. A wet road makes driving it even more of a rush!

Some gratuitous pics of my previous TME. My mental image of an Evo was formed by watching rallying on telly so the first thing I did with the car was the full rally-rep look. Absolutely OTT (and yes, I had a big bore exhaust, decat pipe and woooshy dump valve) but great fun and certainly a very rapid way of getting from A to B... although Mrs R wasn't too impressed other than the fact that it had a decent sized boot smile

Love these. I'm not concerned with image at all as these are amazing cars. Never experienced a TME but whilst i had my impreza swapped often with my mates Evo VII. Harder, faster, and better feel than my warmed over impreza.

My wife is much more bothered about image and probably wouldn't be seen in one but she is a semi petrol head and Im sure could be turned with a drive in one.

Anyone saying they don't do anything for them has never driven one ..... IMO.

I've always been an Evo fan, and the VI TME would sit comfortably in my dream 10 car garage. With the rust issues so many people are finding with earlier Evos on British roads, and the big modification scene, finding one in a good standard/lightly modified condition is rare but for those very reasons they look like being a good investment. And there are few cars around which can give you that much of a thrill on any road, in any weather.

Its gorgeous in every single way.Never driven one but read loads about them and never read anything other than a great review.
I would love one and, as I live in Essex, the image wouldn't bother me either!

Troll much?

No need to get sniffy over a ricer old boy.

There are not many cars that want me to be 21 again (so i don't look like a dick driving one) but the Tommi is one of them.

The red with white wheels is iconic in my book and the drive is far better than I expected.

Sure, they do go whizz bang whoosh, that is part of the appeal. A bit like a TVR when something falls off it wink

Great cars. These days I'd take an Evo over an Impreza Turbo, it used to be the other way around back in the early 2000s (and RS Cosworths before that).

What a good writeup. I love the references to control weights and the sum being greater than the parts - this piece is clearly written by someone who appreciates the finer points of driving.

On the other hand, those who dismiss these cars outright on the basis of them being Japanese, AWD, saloons or bodykitted are clearly more interested in superficial considerations and deserve to be cheerfully ignored.

I hate to say it but i might just agree with you, probably wouldn't say no to a WR1 or a Spec D though

One of my all time favourite cars.

Its doesn`t get much better than this.

Wouldn`t be suprised if these shoot up in value over the next 10 years.

Can you drive? I have to ask, if not I understand your comment but if you can I think you might be lost, this is pistonheads, a site for car enthusiasts. Perhaps you were looking for Pilchardheads?

Drive one of these on a half day rally course, where they set a course out with cones on a disused runway. Was staggered how fast you take the corners and chicanes. Always wanted one but swmbo was paranoid the house would be broken into , to get the cars to nick the car frown

Rather have something 1 wheel drive or two wheel drive if that's ok with you? If you like Awd jap saloons with lots of gizmos keeping you on the straight and narrow, that's fine with me , but it leaves me quite cold to be honest. Take off the rally rep body kit and you're left with one of the most boring cars looking cars ever. Horses for courses and all that but not for me chap! If it was I would of had one many moons ago.

Lots of gizmos keeping you on the straight and narrow? You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

Take off the bodykit and you have a boring looking car? The bodykit is part of the car, part of the design. Rally cars thrill most petrolheads more than anything else.

I guess you must be old.

i don't think there is any need to resort to ageism... It is enough that the guy referred to the looks of the thing! Clearly not an enthusiast as these were never about how they looked!

Its not resorting to ageism, its a point that is likely correct. Possibly the elderly don`t get these cars just like not many young guys would want to drive classics from before their time. Its likely an era thing.

Had 14 Evo's and the TME certainly was the 2nd best I had , but commanded the most attention - talk about sitting in a goldfish bowl - everyone, and I mean everyone looks at you.

The VIII MR I had was a better car, although the TME seats are the most comfortable i've had in over 30 years and over 30 cars.

They also looked even better with 18" alloys........
