Its not resorting to ageism, its a point that is likely correct. Possibly the elderly don`t get these cars just like not many young guys would want to drive classics from before their time. Its likely an era thing.
possibly. I'm 44 and probably slap bang in the era to which you refer. Having said that a Mark 1/2 Escort RS2000 etc holds much appeal to me.

I like these it's one of my favourite cars that is sensibly ridiculous to buy instead of ridiculously ridiculous. Now where's my lottery ticket gone?! biggrin

The thing is though, there aren't that many gizmo's on this car and they certainly wont keep you on the straight and narrow if you push the car too much. They just allow most drivers to experience speeds and levels of grip that you could never experience in most other cars? Whats wrong with that?

44 now , so 29 or so when they were about and quite insurable for me at the time. Rally Reps with 4 cylinder, 2 ltr turbocharged engines, with complex 4wd systems, AYC and LSD's really don't do it for me. (Like it or lump it, I'm really not bothered!) In actual fact I'd rather admit I own a Skoda!

Oh, and these are a few hundred pound more to insure than most, if not all the other Evo's.

I love them. Look fantastic to these eyes and no doubt faster, more exciting, more capable and more reliable than an Integrale.

And they go sideways...;)

Evo's are terrific to drive but the best ones are the RS and 9 GT models though, the TME is really just a GSR with a loud paint job and some minimal tweaks. I had an RS TME for a short time which was the best car I've ever used on a track but a complete pain in the neck as a road car. The 9GT was my favourite Evo as had a good mix of both road and track - sadly could not sell it and it got built up into a successful Group N rally car.

Love these. Write up really gets across the essence of the TME experience. Fantastic rain or shine. Great turn in with none of the understeer of a standard scooby. Would love a slightly old school TME to go with the IX, but me thinks finding a good rust free one means a fair bit of looking. Wifey hates them, which I kind of take as an endorsement. Good Evo's don't cost crazy money to run if annual mileage ok - I do about 7k in the IX so service it about every 8months. Darn reliable too.

I'm still tempted by one of these...nearly scratched the itch twice, but running costs put me off (I've never done 'low mileage').

Boring jap saloons in hideous bodykits that go whizz, bang, whoosh do nothing for me no matter how capable they are.
Hm. A plastic car is a bad thing is it?
I've owned TVRs for 12 years and last time I looked they were fibre glass just like yours.
These Jap cars like the Evo and WRX give huge performance and reliability.
On a budget too. Grip in the wet. Go around bends. Start. That sort of thing. Bloody brilliant!

I drove a few examples of each of the 6, 7, 8 & 9.
If I was buying now the 6 would by far and away be the pick of the bunch for me.

Cool and all, but I'd get the IX MR, last of the "proper" Evo's, if I was to keep it for a long time. Don't judge me, it's just an opinion.

These are going the way of Integrale's for me, never looked better. Neither should look good but there is something special about them. I think it's somewhere between nostalgia and just knowing how capable they are.

10 years - possibly 15 - and these, mint, will be fetching 50 to 70k. They're the future mk1 escort.

plastic bodykit, chav image, laggy engine bla blah blah... have any of these ppl ever driven one or even sat in a well driven one??

well let me tell you.. even now one of these cars can leave a new 911 for dead in the bends and if you do decide to fettle it how have nothing short of a weapon!

These cars are already classics and should not be confused with the more plentiful (and less appealing IMO) newer ones, and most definitely should not be ranked alongside the likes of £2000 battered scooby.

For me a 10 out of 10 Hero car and thats coming from someone who has never owned a jap car and more in to old Fords and American cars. But as an enthusiast I appreciate how fantastic these cars are. If you prefer a 5 series diesel maybe you are on the wrong site?
