No way on earth they'll be fetching £50k-£70k in the future !!

They may go up as far as about £20k tops.

Even immaculate one's at £12k aren't selling very quick now.

Hasn't that been said about pretty much every car though?

There was a time you couldn't give an Escort Mexico away for free.

I've owned a lot of Evo's and the Makinen was the most enjoyable to drive.

Had 14 Evo's and the TME certainly was the 2nd best I had , but commanded the most attention - talk about sitting in a goldfish bowl - everyone, and I mean everyone looks at you.

The VIII MR I had was a better car, although the TME seats are the most comfortable i've had in over 30 years and over 30 cars.

They also looked even better with 18" alloys........

These cars have such good proportions, they sit so well. Only ever been a passenger in a Evo VI and an VIII FQ320, never driven one. Needless to say I was impressed.
If I had a fantasy garage that included a rally rep not sure what I would pick; Intergrale EVO, 22B ,TME or an Escort Cosworth Monte.

Nothing available now seems to have the impact the old rally reps had in their day.

I know someone with one of these with 20k on the clock sat in his garage unused. He's hoping it will one day reach the £20k he paid for it when it was a few years old.

Seems a shame, but he's just gutted he didn't buy the mint Integrale Evo instead at the time.

I CAN see them appreciating further, mainly because of the strong rallying link/heritage and the 'name' attached to this variant. I can't see them getting to Escort/'grale money simply because they're Japanese, and the UK collector market (hell, most of the UK market) seems to have a problem with Japanese* performance cars vs their UK/European equivalents...

Shame...

* And US for that matter - look at all the negative comments about the C5/6/7 'vettes, FFS...

Still the best Evo before they got unsportingly heavy.

Some gratuitous pics of my previous TME. My mental image of an Evo was formed by watching rallying on telly so the first thing I did with the car was the full rally-rep look. Absolutely OTT (and yes, I had a big bore exhaust, decat pipe and woooshy dump valve) but great fun and certainly a very rapid way of getting from A to B... although Mrs R wasn't too impressed other than the fact that it had a decent sized boot smile

Every time you repost these pics I go classified-browsing.

Why is it that your evo looks so right with the wrc decals while 555 Imprezas look st?

Great cars and a standard original one is an appreciating classic. I had a black 6 many years ago when they were current, the steering feel and generally the was it went about its business was a revelation after a couple of subarus.

Haha. Thanks (I think) wink

Mind you, every time these Evo threads come up I also go classified browsing smile
The one for sale on MLR does look nice.
Only thing I don't miss is the 6 monthly servicing.

As for the WRC decals. I thought it looked a bit plain without them, although not surprisingly they did bring a wee bit of unwanted attention at times

Had my Evo 6 from new - 1999 , and its got 23k on it now .

I keep thinking about selling it but just cant bring myself to do it , especially as I would
be lucky to get more than 10k - 12k for it .

Great value cars atm

well let me tell you.. even now one of these cars can leave a new 911 for dead in the bends and if you do decide to fettle it how have nothing short of a weapon!

These cars are already classics and should not be confused with the more plentiful (and less appealing IMO) newer ones, and most definitely should not be ranked alongside the likes of £2000 battered scooby.

For me a 10 out of 10 Hero car and thats coming from someone who has never owned a jap car and more in to old Fords and American cars. But as an enthusiast I appreciate how fantastic these cars are. If you prefer a 5 series diesel maybe you are on the wrong site?
Yep, agree with all that.

The Evo has all but died now, I expect prices to head one way, and it isnt down.

Evo's aren't in the same league as Fords / Integrale's etc for holding their value and never will be.

I'd much prefer a mint L reg Evo2 over a mint L reg Escort Cosworth, and the price differential will be circa £20k !

I've never understood the huge prices some old fast fords command when there's far better (same period) cars out there for a fraction of the price.

What makes you say that an Evo will never be in the same league as Fords/Integrale's?

Here's mine - loved it & had it pushing out 500bhp with a trick stroker engine/hybrid turbo & all of the bits to make it handle - looked totally standard other than a slightly larger exhaust system....

...but totally mental biggrin Took me a few years to get back to another car that gave me as much thrill as the "Maka" - ultimately years later took a bike to get here !

Total lack of image, but one of those cars that "those in the know" used to nod in appreciation - think it may become the Lotus Cortina of its generationcool

How can you possibly know that?

In the 80's no one predicted a 20k Escort Mexico, how can you possibly say they won't go the same way?

Fun and handle unbelievable !!!! Had a blue Makinen which to this day have never seen another in this colour but think they will hold their price but for the unmodded standard or special cars.

44 now , so 29 or so when they were about and quite insurable for me at the time. Rally Reps with 4 cylinder, 2 ltr turbocharged engines, with complex 4wd systems, AYC and LSD's really don't do it for me. (Like it or lump it, I'm really not bothered!) In actual fact I'd rather admit I own a Skoda!
I'd rather drive a skoda than your old fashioned TVR !

I owned TVR for 10 years, then an XKR, now an Evo VIII MR

TVR are lovely, but until you realise how bad they are, you will have rose tinted glasses.
If you havnt driven an EVO then you are really not educated enough to comment on them, they drive differently and are more talented than any other car, even at twice the price.

The biggest problem ive got, is finding something to replace it with. There simply isnt anything that can perform like it, I think I have to spend 50k on a GT3 to get anywhere near what im looking for next and that says alot.

Im sure your happy with your lazy rejected engine that was designed in the 60's and a plastic creaky body shell sitting on rusty outriggers.

That's the mind set I had when I decided not to buy an E30 M3 when they were selling for £5 - £6K.

Some people don't want to pay, or can't justify, the fuel bills to own an Evo, etc.
Those other criticisms are valid and many non-car people won't really understand get why you'd want to own an old, thirsty, dull, cheap feeling and noisy Japanese saloon with a silly body kit! If you tell them what you paid for it they may raise an eyebrow like Roger Moore! biggrin
To me it's appeal is the WRC-esque looks and feel plus I like driving. The Evo X is the best looking Evo in terms of styling but I like the TME because it looks like a WRC car. Childish perhaps but that's the way I feel.
