Now this is a car.

Why did PH bother with that Thema 8.32 junk when THIS was in the wings?!
Jeez. You really do have a problem with the Thema don't you! Lucky you're not saying this in 80's Italy otherwise you'd find yourself in a boot of one.........be it Mafioso or Italian Parliament cars smile
I do - I've only been in one, my aunt's, but it was awful. It wasn't a V8, I seem to remember it being a 2000 or maybe 2200 Super (?). I preferred the Talbot Sunbeam she had before it...

But this Maser is lovely. The blue one further up the page... dribble in pants time.

Ah, if it was the normally aspirated 2000 then I can understand. The engine is good but It's pulling a lot of weight. I had the Turbo one(same lump as the Integrale) and it was exceptional..........other than fuel saving smile

Great write up. Reminds me of being incredibly jealous of a uni friend who'd worked at an auction house at the same sort of age, driving all manner of exotica round the airfield where it was based.

I reckon this era of Maserati are starting to be looked upon more favorably. I get the impression they used to be seen as the oddball models of a failing company (I was even warned off buying one by a Maserati diehard a few years back) but now they seem to be coming back into fashion.

From that link...

I'm not sure what is worse, what the bloke has done to that yellow one above or this...

I would suggest whoever has done that doesn't step foot in Italy.

Those seats look amazing.

I remmeber back in 1998 when Auto Express pitched one of these against a Mercedes SL and Jaguar XK.

Loved these back in the day.

I'm sure they held the record for the most powerful 2 litre engine (on a production car) for an awful long time.

Still a wonderful car after nearly 20yrs.

Remember seeing a brand new red one get opened up down Knightsbridge back in the day (I'd be 11 or 12) and wanting one ever since

Whilst in 2014, a "mear" 335 horses won't get you much more than a short column underneath an advert for tyres or something, on about page 20 of a motoring mag, back then it was a BIG number!

(i personally doubt the road cars actually made that amount of power, but still, who cares ;-)

That blue one is a real beauty! I love that colour!

What were the differences between a Ghibli and a Shamal?
Slightly-more 'pumping' of the wheelarches, a roof design hinting at a targa top (but wasn't!) plus a 3.2 litre V8 engine - still with the twin turbos though - pushing out 325 BHP, I seem to remember.

I also believe the later Ghiblis (the 2.8 litre as well as the 2.0 litre Cup) also picked up the rear axle from the Ferrari 456 when, as the article says, they received the six-speed Getrag gearbox

Would love one of these, even just a Ghibli, but finding one that isn't as rotten as a pear is near impossible. And those that are solid have prices to match. Lovely looking thing though, very 90s.

He may have also bought the same car as his was red too but had a private plate on...
Not sure which one Harry bought. The plate on the press pics above is Meridien Modena's plate, seen on some superb tackle over the years.

No idea on the name of the colour, but that is stunning - and no, I don't need to go to specsavers thanks. rolleyes
I think its called French Blue, but I'm not 100%. Suits the cup down to the ground.

I love these things. There was one a lovely looking red one that lived down the en of my road until a year or so ago, I lost count of the number of times I thought about slipping a 'if you ever fancy selling this...' note under the wiper but never did did. Wish I had now !

One of my all time favourites. The design may look simple but there's something about it I just love. Only ever saw one around 2001 near St Pauls. Didn't know about the Shamal - looks quite nice too. Great exotic-sounding names
