Makes sense to me - the gravel can be raked over to get rid of any oil stains left by leaky cars.
It might also be something to do with water run-off. I seem to recall that they (the EA I guess) have tightened up on people
Tarmacing everything as rainwater doesn't soak into the ground and runs off causing flooding.

The local food hall here has a sloped car park down to a yard and they use the same principle, probably to help stop the yard flooding.

Design wise as said I think it is stupid and will require constant maintenance, good and valid points on the water soak however, I did not consider that aspect.

Sainsburys Balham, Saturday. I know there is a post within the parking space but he could have done better than that.

What purpose does the post serve, seems an odd place for it?

i'm guessing to stop chavs doing donuts in the car park when it's empty? Or to stop people driving through to the other lane via the parking spaces.

Probably there to protect the lamp post next to it.

Not sure why the posts are there. There was one in my space too (mine is the grey E46 Touring I am standing next to) but I managed to get in straight.

I don't think that's bad parking. It's actually quite good if you look at it. They've just got confused....

Never in a million years will plod follow that up.
I see police officers drive past people parked on zigzags almost daily.

Just up the road from there are a few takeaways all on double yellows where lazy people park to get their food.

I've followed a police car which just drove past them all. frown

If I had tried to move the VW back I still wouldn't have had enough room to get the SAAB out (inches in it!) and I'm not really supposed to use the VW OTR without my wife being involved in the trip in some way (clause in the motability insurance as it is so heavily adapted or something). Inconsiderate parking fools!

They came back while I was posting the pic on another forum so I missed my chance to speak with them. Had been there for up to 2 hours, not quite sure as I don't watch out of the window all day! The police were on the way too after I called 101, I was surprised that they cared at all but it may have been a quiet day. Cancelled that promptly.

For the eagle eyed, yes my dropped kerb does not extend right across but I DO NOT bump up or down the kerb as it damages the car (sunken drain + SAAB wheelbase + housewards sloping drive = removal of mudflaps at least). I have perfected getting on and off at an angle and straightening up for the drive while I save up for more driveway space on the lawn. The Scenic is well over the dropped kerb, the VW would only make it out by turning left enough to have the rear wheels cross the neighbours drive, luckily no fence.

I was not a happy chappie, nor was my daughter who wanted a ride in the SAAB (warm place to sleep with good stereo, she likes the smell of leather and wood veneer I think!).

"More children now travel much further to come to Istead Rise, so for some parents travelling by car is absolutely essential."

Don't think his logic chip is functioning properly. They are allowed to drive. They must obey traffic laws.
