I have never seen that done, and wouldn't do it, but quite funny how at a glance it fools you into thinking it has 21" or 22" wheels, instead of the cheap ones it actually wears.

I saw some discussion on the question on here a while ago but there wasn't a conclusive answer. I've seen a few old VWs with yellow lights and I've always wondered. I suppose people like to see what they can get away with though. My old type 3 had californian style plates and never got pulled...

Edit: I've just seen your second comment. Well that's quite odd. I suppose back then there may have been a few imported cars with yellow lights. They only look OK on certain cars, usually 80's or older

What on earth is going on here? Looks to be a plastic shield within the wheel. Couldn’t see anything else.

Brake disc shield... Has a few functions...

1. To help stop stones etc getting stuck between disc and pad (proper function)
2. To stop wheels getting covered in brake dust
3. To hide that fact that your motor with enormous wheels has rather naff looking tiny or rusty brakes
