You wouldn't be at all surprised if that creation rolled up and Ming the Merciless stepped out of it.

I think as it's a laugh done for charity it doesn't belong here. If it had been the owner taking themselves seriously then maybe....

When I was 17/18 (a good few years ago now) I would have drooled longingly over that. My own MK3 never looked quite so cool. laugh

I wonder when that photo was taken - given the lights on the prom I'd guess it's a recent one

Car in the background looks fairly modern.

When I was 17, my first car was a black GXL, loved the noise of it's twin webers and those deep cowelled gauges but I got pulled over a few times by plod because non standard colour. Happy days indeed.

It's a current build, I see it at Wheels Day in Aldershot most years.

Why the faceted body panels? Invisible to police radars?
I was wondering the same, but they run out of money before they did the front (the radar visible bit)? Little underside protection from IEDs and those 24 carat gold ashtrays are gonna be a problem if you get hit by any sabot type anti armour rounds.

Apart from looking like a cock, it has no function.
If someone is firing SABOT I think the safety implications of having gold in there is going to be trivial.

More than happy to find out though, shall we "test" it in say, lulworth?

Shamelessly stolen from The Northern Retro Facebook page:

Not necessarily "badly" modified, just "perhaps shouldn't have been".

the sad thing is I can imagine that it cost more to convert than to buy a 2nd hand S197

That looks like a period dealer special edition. I like it . Very period. I'd find the original wheels for it though:
Yep I think you are right. Our local dealer in Kent wasn't shifting too many Metros but the 6R4 was doing pretty well in competition - so along came the white 1.3 Metro with a triple decker rear wing and 4R2 (4 cylinders, 2 wheel drive) decals ...seriously...
