The advert also says "The cars are not for sale but enquiries are welcome".
Yes, I read that. But it reads that if you are interested the dealer will speak to the owner to put a deal together.I have a serious issue with people advertising things for sale (even if the small print says otherwise) that they have no right to be offering.

Or is it a case of the dealer will then desperately try to find out who the owner is and approach him before you do?

The dealer won't be speaking with me because they don't know who I am.
I guess one of the downsides to F1 (or any Hypercar) ownership is that everyone wants to be your friend. I fear more for negative reasons, than positive. How do you deal with that?
When you are lucky enough to end up with more money than what the average person has, other people start to figure that out. That will usually happen even if you do not indulge in expensive things such as sports cars or big houses; people will make intelligent inferences from the nature of your job, knowing something about your family, or even being aware of your charitable activity. That won't apply to every single wealthy person, but to the vast majority.
If you're lucky enough to be in a position of wealth, at least in my experience it is fairly frequent that some of those interacting with you will have an angle.
One does not want to become cynical about the human race; if you're down on your luck, there is nothing wrong with looking for a helping hand from someone who is up on his or her luck. That is fair enough. If someone wants something, I'd prefer to be asked straight.
The tedious part is when someone is posing as your best buddy, laughing at your intended jokes and agreeing with everything that you say, whilst actually having a hidden agenda. I have had a number of those, in all sorts of situations. It's been funny because sometimes, at a certain point, a mutual acquaintance has gone to the new "best buddy" and said, 'I hope you know that Flemke never, ever invests in the sort of thing you're doing'. After that, it seems, I never hear from the new best buddy again! Who would have thought?!
The main thing I have learned over the years is to keep my BS detector turned on 24/7. It has sometimes failed me (or perhaps I have sometimes failed to heed it), but as they say it's a high-class problem.
With regard to the F1 specifically, usually I have found that people who are genuinely enthusiastic about the car are genuine in their interaction with me. I have had to deal with many more chancers and clowns away from the F1 than I have encountered in relation to it. Maybe that says something good about petrolheads.
I am far from wealthy but have a private well equipped workshop and limited skills with some of the equipment therein.
When people find out you have these facilities It is surprising how many want to befriend you. I have learned to be careful who I let into my world. True friends bring something to the table (not necessarily financial, could be as little as advice or pure friendship).
I have found that the 'friends' out for what they can get are liberal with the consumables I have sitting around, tend not to be overly tidy and always take longer than they said. So I end up subsidising them.
I like helping real friends. But getting through the door takes quite a bit more time these days.
With the Ultima I am more likely to take someone interested in it for a ride if they haven't asked, than I am someone who has!
I suspect the more you have that others would like, the more 'fake' friends you attract.

You must be at the top end of that problem!

Good morning Mr F, have you had time to put some miles on the HS? I would be most interested to hear a short review - with reference to the LT and P1 - if you would
I hate to say it, but I have driven a sports car only once this year: an NSX (old type, which was wonderful as usual). I just haven't had the time for anything more. In fact, this year I have spent more time designing a CF steering wheel boss for my F1 than I have spent driving fun cars.
I drove the HS when I got it last year. I thought I posted here something about it.
Relative to the LT, the HS's engine is more responsive and has a bit more torque, the suspension is somewhat stiffer and there is less roll. I didn't drive it fast enough to notice any difference in downforce, but with that rear wing the braking distance was quite short. It's a more involving drive than the LT, although the differences are fairly subtle ones - none substantial.
AlmostUseful makes a very useful point: it sounds like you enjoy the project element as much as the driving. It sounds rewarding!

I'll answer your question in, I hope, a way that does not suggest that I am complaining or looking for any sympathy.

I pride myself on being honest. If you ask me a question, you get the answer. If you don't like the answer, that is not my fault. Fairly certain this has cost me a job in the past, and I have got better at managing myself. But, only in the sense of dressing up the answer slightly.
