I think that when they gave it the name "Pista", they forgot to add a "ke" at the end.
Surely begging for a hybrid version using old F1 technology.

Amen to that.
The other issue with the SLS is that the bonnet is so long that you, literally, have to inch your way out of a blind junction.
On the other hand, the upside is one of the most satisfying and evocative modern road cars ever made.
I have spent a wonderful 30 minutes driving the SLS on track and I'd describe the driving experience as if the Mercedes engineers wanted to make a modern V8 powered Lotus 7 with a roof. I'm not much of a driver but it felt very similar with the engine weight so far behind the front wheels, and you sit really close to the rear axle as you would in the 7. Couple with good driver feedback and adjust ability. Obviously I'd like a few hundred kilos lopped off the weight of the standard SLS (and end up with a £1m+ car) to get the feel even closer to the 7 but the SLS isn't as fat as some might think.
Was this a Black Series that you drove or a regular car?

Flemke, erm.. the styling of the Senna... errr... do you like it... smile

Definitely one I will have to judge in the flesh... that front bonnet and bumper, and the wing.

https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-britishcars/mc...
Not a thing of beauty! The worst parts are the double diffuser, the fences in the bonnet that run from the bottom of the A-pillars forward at an angle to the bumper, and then there is that wing....

For me the challenge is whether it is possible to make the car look "okay" in some sense.

I do like the idea of the car, and wish that a nice looking version of it - very light weight, no hybrid nonsense, more than enough power, driver focus - had been the P1.

Flemke, Just wondering whether you would have any useful contacts which you could point me in the direction of with regards to your brakes? The carbon ceramics on my boss's SLR need replacing and he is loathe to pay the circa £35k being asked, so the car is just sorn'd and under a cover in the garage, which is a crying shame.
Alternatively, do MSO still get involved with SLR's to your knowledge? Anyone there who might be worth talking to?
No, I have not dealt with an independent source of carbon-ceramic rotors. Maybe Movit in Germany? I considered working with them, but decided against carbon-ceramics because of the need for a servo.

To your other question, MSO definitely still work on SLRs, and in fact they will always have one or two chassis in their shop at any time. I don't know whether there is a designated person for SLRs. I am reluctant to publicise individuals' names on the internet, but James Banks is Global Head of Sales for MSO and if you google "James Banks McLaren" it comes up with 1.1m results, so I guess he's a bit public already!

You could try contacting Surface Transforms. They don't list anything specifically for this car, but they make aftermarket kits for several other cars in addition to their OEM work.

Surface Transforms make the ceramic rotors (or used to) for the movit ceramic kit iirc.

Let's just say that I hope that Surface Transforms have transformed themselves from the outfit with which I tried to deal several years ago. rolleyes

Ah interesting that. scratchchin JZM have been very positive on the ST brake replacement on gt3s and such so I've been thinking of changing to those I have to admit...

Thanks for the response so far guys.
Have dropped an email to MSO to see if there is anyone specific for SLR work. Used to deal with Nigel Unsworth when he was at the SLR centre at Brooklands but he is off doing his own thing now.
Movit isn’t a name I am familiar with so will do some research there, thanks for that.
SICOM (also in Germany) is another name that seems to have come up a couple of times now when discussing with others so need to give them both a buzz if MSO can’t come up with something sensible.
Please keep suggestions / contacts coming though if anyone springs to mind.

Oh, and Flemke, really appreciate the insight into one of the only modern superstars cars I am very unlikely to ever experience.

I hope they have changed. It was just that several years ago I was distinctly unimpressed. I think Aston are using them to supply the brakes on the Valkyrie, so maybe one could say that the ST brakes are as well engineered as an Aston Martin.... scratchchin

Apologies? Most of the hundreds of pages of these threads have been sidelines, and the better for it!

Just the regular one, I'd imagine your Black Series would be considerably sharper. I know the Black Series C class I drove was a massive improvement over the standard AMG C Class.

Reason that I asked is that you mentioned the desirability of taking weight out of the car. The Black Series is supposedly 70kg lighter than standard.

On the Senna, I notice the exhausts pointing up, what is there to stop anything falling in/filling with rainwater and so on?

Not generally an issue when stuck in a museum/collection.

Flemke obviously excluded.

As soon as you start it up, the air flow will fire it all out, just like the 918
