Living in Coventry for the next two weeks, I think Sunday morning just filled up nicely...

Ahhhh, the 'fosse. I like that.

The little stretch of 423 below it that connects Southam to Banbury is also an absolute gem... if you can catch it without any traffic on it that is. I've not been that way in a couple of years sadly, but I'm told they dropped a 50mph speed limit on it recently, which is a shame.
I used to drive every day to Banbury through southm. Awesome road when no traffic. Didn't mind the 64 mile round commute in my ibiza Cupar tdi, fast and frugal and awesome road. However I used to meet the slowest driver of all time down this road. Gold hrv. I remember the 20+ car tail back behinds her. She used to pull over in lay-bys occasionally, she got some abuse. This was for at least 16months and her driving did not improve. Wasn't even that old. She used to ruin what was the best part of my day in an instance

It's a good bit of road, but it's very difficult to find a clear run. Be prepared for lots of 40-50mph dawdling.

The Fosse is ok but iirc it's a 50 most of the way
It's national.

A lot of people think it's 50 for some reason.

yes Awfully slow road between 3pm and 9pm as not many work to maintain their speed up the hills. There's always a lorry or tractor to hold you up if not a slowpoke in a car.

While I agree the Fosse is a proper old skool road I'd not recomend following the advice in article headline!

'You won't mind being sent to Coventry if you take this little diversion'

Using the Fosse to enter Coventry from the East will take you in via the A45 and the infamous 'Tollbar Island'

Busy at the best of times during rush hour but for the next 2-3 years its total carnage while they build an underpass under the roundabout, approching from the A45 east at rush hour will wipe the smile from your face while you sit in the traffic for half and hour..

At least you'd have time to post your 'Fosse experience' on Piston Heads.

Used the left-hand part of that route as my 'long way home' from Gaydon ten years ago - great way to clear the cobwebs after a st day. Still make a point of detouring when I'm near there and I can.

...but I agree that traffic is a big issue now, especially on the Fosse itself - too few opportunities to overtake, too many side-roads, farm entrances etc. as already mentioned.

I guess it just feels that way hehe
Frustrating when you're stuck in a 1.6 diesel company car with the overtaking prowess of a slug.

There's that one road with RR and a Holiday inn or something, has a chicane in it and the little bump with the rough bits from years of people landing heavily hehe
I work at RR and cross that "little bump" twice a day! scrape scrape

This is also my route into work, but I think in the opposite direction. In a California at the minute, so wave if you see one coming your way.

I used to use the Fosse every day as part of my commute.

The section between Offchurch and Princethorpe is an utter joy if you get a clear run, particularly heading north.

A423 Southam Road from Banbury to the A45 is a much more fun drive than Fosse Way. I find Fosse Way plain boring.

Do you come through Bretford (over the little traffic lighted bridge)?
What colour is it?

The Fosse bit or the Pailton to Rugby bit. I'm either in FFRR or DBS, what time?

What are you in RacerMike?

Starting at the Brinklow turn, down as far as queue for JLR. Usually between 7.30 and 8.00

Black (usually very clean) MkV Golf GTI 3 door on 18s. Almost definitely seen you Carpov. I drive down either Harbury Lane or from Offchurch.
