Seen both before, but could watch them over and over. No idea why so harsh on the Honda video, it's super-cool. The actual qualifying lap video is terrifying ! ** What a noise !!! ** Totally amazing. Love the James Hunt quote, not heard that one before :-)

I was about to post that. Other than that moment he's fast and smooth making it look easy when it's not!

You know it is somewhat unfair to post up these Senna videos before GP weekends. Imagine how the current crop of GP stars must feel watching that, the sudden humbling realisation that really in the great scheme of things your just not on the same planet to the level he was at.

Who didn't rate that 10?

Come on own up...

Right get out, right now and come back when you've thought about what you've done.

It's a ten for that original footage, you could put ten minutes of paint drying in the other vid and it would still be a TEN. Grrrrrrr.

Incidentally, the greatest video I have ever seen of Senna is not this one but of him driving up the hill from Sainte Devote at Monaco in (I think) the Toleman and the thing is just about undriveable he is correcting it going in a straight line and the car is just dancing, the most incredible bit of car control I've ever seen. Anyone know the bit of video I'm talking about? Is it on You Tube?

Just love the way you can hear him doing his signature 'throttle stabbing' in every single corner, regardless of the speed he's already carrying. He is hardly ever fully off the throttle.

Spine chilling.

Amazing video.

And please Honda, don't give Bernie any more crazy ideas.

Very clever. Ah, the days when F1 cars didn't sound like hoovers...

that looks utterly terrifying compared to the modern cars
I agree, that looks wild
F1 now days looks so smooth and safe in comparison
If you grew up watching F1 in the 80s you would realise quite how dull it became.

The one handed-oversteer correction into the chicane takes it for me. Epic.

The real video reminded me of a comment Martin Brundle made in one of the commentaries last year about when Nico Rosberg had been talking him through a lap and said he'd had a 'big moment' in one of the corners and Brundle observed that back in the day the steering inputs were bigger than that in a straight line.

I think the braking for the final chicane is the definition of 'on the limit'. brightened up my Friday morning!

Really? I bet at least half of the drivers think they're that good, but would never admit it publically. I think you underestimate their self belief and the size of their egos.

In fairness to todays F1 drivers, they drive the cars they are given by the team. Had they been around back in the 80's im sure we would be marvelling at their car control (well, some of them anyway).

Not to take anything away from the lap in question though. Truly epic.
