I put a car in a lockup in about 1991 thinking I’d ‘sort it out’ when I had the time.
I haven’t had the time.
And I don’t live anywhere near it any more.
Cool. What car and do you still own it?

It’s a 1969 Cortina 1600E. The car of choice for Essex soulboys like me at the time and the first decent car I ever had.
It’s no doubt in a terrible state now.

I would be perfectly happy to cover most of my annual mileage in an autonomous vehicle.

DLR YEs. ( Sort of)

Other trains - No.

I reckon if my team of 12 could work remotely with
a decent internet connection
whilst being driven to the things we MUST attend
in a Deskmobile (c) Talksthetorque 2020
We could get rid of the two aholes in the team and probably one other.

I had a Toyota Aygo for about three months when my Camaro was being fixed. It was a terrible car to drive, but in the year it's been gone I do find I sort of miss the fun of trying to actually get the thing to go and the liberation of not having to care about mechanical sensitivity as it wasn't mine.
The acceleration is non-existent regardless of what gear you're in... all the fun comes from trying to maintain and carry the speed once you do get up to 50-60 on an A or B road, having to plan and precisely execute an overtake rather than just wafting past on a wave of instant torque, all whilst batting against the skinny tyres and rather roly-poly suspension.

As I've already said, it requires far more fun driver involvement than any previous performance cars I've owned.
I’m guilty of this too! Over the last couple of months I have been ferrying myself about in my dads Peugeot 108 & left my MK3 Focus RS in the garage & I honestly feel around town the Peugeot is more fun to drive, pretty much full throttle in every gear everywhere & still under the limit! The satisfaction of overtaking someone because you have read the road a lot better than someone else in their much more powerful car (yes, I’m thinking about the F Pace SVR I was able to get in front of by reading the movements of traffic!) is so much more rewarding than being in a quick car! The 3 cylinder engine also has a charm to it! Would make for an interesting track car too!

I may have occasionally put my car into reverse at 15mph and arrested its forward motion by engaging the clutch before reversing.

Occasionally.

Fairly often now I think about it.

paperbag

And me with my protestations of mechanical sympathy.

I did that with an automatic Ford Corsair 2000E many years ago whilst travelling forwards at about 30mph with interesting consequences.

Only did it the once.

I like it when people in front of me use rear fogs on unlit roads when it's raining but not foggy, because the reflection of the lamps on the road surface enables me to spot potholes etc before my headlights come in range.

I had a fern green series 2. Often thought I'd like another.

You should sell it, they make strong money. Currently there's a pile of bits and a v5 on Ebay for £2.5k

Meanwhile I have a hankering of late for a Smart four two. I'm sure it will pass, it happens every few years.

Came here to post exactly that car.
Where most PHers worship at the altar of Roman's I regularly search Saxton 4x4
This just dropped £8k in price.... in another decade or so it will be minehttp://www.saxton4x4.co.uk/used-car-details/used-mercedes-benz-gls-gls-63-4matic-5dr-7g-tronic-estate-black-semi-auto-petrol/id-9439385771/
We paid list! One of the few cars we have owned from new that feels like it will run forever and interior very hard wearing. Handles lots of kids and their stuff brilliantly and still drives and feels new after six years of ownership - very happy with the car so they're a fantastic used buy.

Mazda Astina / 323F. The last one with the fixed headlights, not the quirkly looking one with the popup headlamps.
Boring, ordinary car with no particularly interesting engine options and no particularly well performing ones either to make up for the lack of handling excitement. Also, they really haven't aged well. But, when they were current, they just looked so cool to me that I was almost willing to put up with all the dreariness just to posses that frameless windowed swoopy 5 door coupe shape.
Yes!!

They were (and still are IMO a superb looking car!

I very nearly had one as my second or third car..(18/19 year old ish) but couldn't due to the insurance being a fortune, several times the value of the car itself, even though this was some kinda basic 1.3 model. I really liked it, cool as!

My guilty secret is something that's wound up several PHers in the past...

I prefer RWD to FWD, even when driving slowly or in poor weather.

I have to pat my cars every time I pass them on the drive or when leaving them parked at work, etc..

To me, it's just showing them I care about them as they all have feelings. There are currently 4 cars on our drive.

My wife and son (17) do not do this, but my daughter (9) always does. She cuddles and kisses them every so often, too.

I have a thing for old Saabs, even though they've mostly been crap and unreliable apart from one 9000 I had, there's just something about them. I've owned 8 now. Not many people seem to get it, and if I'm honest, nor do I!

Similar but for 6N2 Polo GTIs. Their chocolate gearboxes make a great little car an utter pain in the neck to live with but I've owned two, both with gearbox problems, and would happily have another.
